    Hi,

I know I don't post here often, but I have lurked for years...

My wife is a photographer and I borrowed her old camera when I went to
Appin (NSW, Australia) on the weekend to watch some friends race.

I'm obviously fishing for compliments here, but if they are crap then
I guess I need to know that as well...

I have about 700 more so if you raced at Appin on Sunday the 5th tell
me what you were riding and your number and I'll see if I have any of
    you.

    Take care,

    Brian

    Nahh all good there.
Some very nice shots, if anything some are a touch underexposed but
overall composition and framing were good.

    Very nice Brian.
MX isn't my thing but the shots are great.

The underexposed thing in my preference - I like it like that. I
    understand not everyone will.

  9. Doubt it. We'd tell you to rack off Normie!

  10. Probably to do with your monitor too. On a calibrated Mac screen they
look dark, but that tends to be the latest trend too. Next you'll be
    vignetting and doing HDR too!

I'm not a zoom lense fan, but it tends to be very hard to capture
motorsports otherwise! Looking at the first page only you have a killer
shot already! Cull them down severely, like half divided by half and
divided by half again and then half again for good measure unless it's
just for the people in the shots personally. Digital tends to make
    people shoot too much.

HDR is way overdone imho and using lightroom or cs4 you can compensate
for this if you shot in RAW

My monitor is a pretty decent Lenovo L220x and it has not been that
long since I "borrowed" my wife's Spyder-3. Are there any in
particular that look dark, or is it all? None of the shots posted are
"as shot" - they have all had basic colour, exposure, cropping (not as
much as I expected) etc. adjustment in Adobe Lightroom. I shoot RAW
on a Canon 400D. As I said, the darkness is my choice, I like it like
that. But, I'm keen to know that this does not work for others - I
like people to like my stuff :)
My Picasa upload is the result of very serious culling. I shot 1144
on the day. I rejected 104 (not sharp and nothing interesting enough
to compensate). Of the remaining 1040 I have 52 1 star (probably
should be rejected, but I can't), 148 2 star (might be able to get
something out of it if that was the only shot of the subject), 504 3
star (I'm happy with them and would be happy to use them as samples of
my work if there was a call for the subject), 314 4 star (the best of
the 3s...) and 22 5 star. The 5 star are what I uploaded to Picasa.
The ranking was a bit skewed toward the minis because I went to the
track to take photos of a friend's son who was in his first race. I
probably should go through the 4s and 5s again.

    Thanks again,

    Brian
