Commuting in London after 25 years

Is what I'm doing now. Last time I used to ride regularly through town
was in the mid-1980s. Hence the purchase of the little GN250 which is
    perfect for the job.

Sutton-The City takes three quarters of an hour. Admittedly the
traffic seems quiet now, but OTOH the roads are like glass so I'm
    going very carefully.

Observations: fucking cyclists. I counted eight, *eight*, of the
idiots sail through a red light in front of me. And some of the L-
plated scooterists are a bit wonky as well. The one who cut in front
of me on the Elephant & Castle roundabout, and avoided a collision
only because I took evasive action, is heading for an early grave.

What made me grin today was the geezer on one of those new BMW1300
things who was really giving it the berries. Caught him up at the
lights and asked: "Have you got the traction control on this thing?"
His face split into a watermelon-like grin.

    "YES!"

Much more traffic than I used to cope with in the 1980s, but nowadays
we can use the bus lanes, which changes things immensely. Really,
    really handy.

Incidentally, is there a definitive map anywhere of what bus lanes are
legal for bikes in which boroughs, and which ones aren't? Some
boroughs have changed the signs to include a little picture of a bike
on them, and some haven't. For example, Sutton has, and so has
Tooting, but Mitcham in between the two hasn't. I assume it's OK in
Mitcham, and they just haven't got around to changing the signs yet,
but it would be nice to be sure.

I thought it was only "red route" bus lanes as these are TFL whereas the one
    without are local council controlled.

I suspect grandmother/eggs here but watch that the bus lane sign has a
motorbike on it; we can't use all of them.

There's a reason for that, YTC.
hahaha. You'd better go and tippex a bike on the sign.

And long may they continue to do so, if only because it leaves the
advance stop box empty for motorcycles, and ensures they're all out of
the way when the lights go amber and the grand prix starts. The
alternative is fighting your way through a bunch of wobbling day-glo
eco-twats with no rear view as they make off from the lights like
    spasticated snails.

    You'll see more of that.
For the next few months, anyway - it's only a one-year trial. And bear
in mind that it's (mostly) only bus lanes on red routes.

I think they should fit them with square wheels, that would keep the cunts
    fit.

So legal provisions don't apply to them? I didn't realise that.
I thought traffic lights and having lights at night were some sort of legal
    requirement.

Ah. Ta. Rather fewer lanes than I thought - didn't realise it was just
    red routes.
Arse. Did see some cameras but they all seemed to be forward-facing.
    Huzzah.

But cyclists use the roads by right along with pedestrians and horses.
    Not by licence.

Although I do agree with you.

I actually heard the two young girls before I saw them when I was driving to
work this morning. Ok they were on the pavement but even so, black bikes,
dark school uniform and coats. It's not like an LED light costs much FFS.

  16. Yep, 'cos they're the only ones White Boris has control over.
You do know they have them on the buses as well?

I nearly flattened a Rastafarian one couple of years ago - dressed from
head to toe in dark colours on a rainy night - it was only his teeth
glinting in the headlight that gave him away

I'd be surprised if all the relevant signs had not been changed.
    A23 is OK.

I did 10,000 miles on scooter a number of years ago, using
London bus lanes at every opportunity. One ticket - North
of Putney bridge if I recall correctly.

    Well worth it.
