Commuting on a sprotbike

    TOG's post on the triple reminded me that I haven't been out on the 675
    Daytona for a while, so I decided to ride it to town this morning.

    I forgot what a great bike it is, and *much* better than the bandit for
    the motorway bit. Except, it's a license killer, I'm easily going
    30-40mph faster on it in a trice.

    The head down riding position gives a nice airflow down the back of my
    jacket, aaaah, cool.

    A tank bag upsets the airflow somehow, so it's not as smooth as it is
    without.

    Foldy in mirrors are useful whilst filtering.

    The underseat exhaust is bloody hot on your right leg in traffic. It has
    zero heating capability in winter of course.

    It's very easy to ride very slowly much more so than the bandit.

    Riding through underpasses it's irresistable to be two gears lower than
    required, just to hear the exhaust.

    I hope it's still where I left it when it's time to go home, since it's
    a tad more desirable than the bandit.

    I thought the exhaust sound on the Trip was glorious, but it isn't the
    exhaust at all. That's remarkably quiet. It's the induction noise I
    hear, directed vertically up from the tank. So the rider hears it but
    other people (and noise meters, too, I reckon) don't.

    And the snarl it makes is fabulous. It's a neat trick, making bikes
    that sound fabulous to the rider but socially acceptable to everyone
    else.

    Unless you *cough* happen to have a Micron exhaust on, that the baffles
    *cough* fell out of.

    But yes, it really does growl. Maybe I should call it "my growler"

    I'll check the consumption tonight when I fill up. I actually have no
    idea what it's official consumption is. <googles> all over the shop from
    15mpg on the track to over 50 on the road.

    Tyres, hmmm well yeah. I'm not gonna use it every day for sure.

    Dunno about the Daytona, but the Trip is averaging 46mpg atm. It's
    doing 50mpg at a steady indicated 85, and 28mpg at, erm, rather more
    elevated velocities.

    I've actually never bothered with any of the buttons. Except maybe
    looking at the top speed indicator now and then. Does it do average mpg?

    Average and real time, yes. I tend to leave it on real time (when it's
    not just displaying the time) because it's interesting to see just how
    economical it is under certain conditions. I look at the average mpg
    display from time to time.

    A vast improvement on my Zed is that. I'm lucky to see mid 30's.
    Oh, I wish...
    That's close to the Zed at "European" speeds.
