Well it's arrived and first impression is it's very, very small.
Marginally thicker than my mobile (E51) and exactly the same dimensions
(height x width) as a credit card.

Seems to work too, which is nice.

Small is good, especially for mainly holiday "snaps" where you probably
want to carry it all the time.
    Always a good start.

I've had a few Ixuses over the years, starting with an Ixus 300 in
2001 and currently an Ixus 65.

Great cameras for snaps, but I do have a problem with camera shake.
They're that light, I can't hold them steady any more.

The model I got is the Ixus 100 IS, the IS denoting Image Stabilisation.

    It seems to work.

For me it's certainly the weight. I can see my hands shaking when I
try and hold it steady. I'm much better with the 400d SLR with which
I get no shake at all.

Sadly I'm firmly in the Blaney camp of leave it on full auto. Still
manage to get some good shots with the landscape and sports modes
    though.

    Tried it last night.

The D90 doesn't care what mode it's set to and will happily do RAW or
RAW+JPG in any of the preset modes.

    Clearly Canon's are poo. :p

    I didn't know that.
    Fair point.

    And as for the video...

I took a couple of clips while out on a quad on Thursday and the picture
quality is absolutely incredible for such a dinky tool. If it weren't
for the fact that the clips themselves are dull as dishwater (wobbly
hand-cam view of a load of buggies trundling along dirt tracks and
beaches) and the files rather huge (a minute or so of footage at full
720p being about 300 megs) I'd put 'em online.

    Wicked bit of kit.
