That'll be the 'i' factor then.

There was a very enlightening documentary some years ago about the
importance of vehicle badging amongst users of company cars.
    Indeed.

I have the same issue with a set of carbs, a radiator, and assorted bits
and bobs. And we're talking months here, not days.

Sadly not a comedy show - a serious BBC (I think) documentary with
company car users discussing how important specs and badging were in
    determining their worth and status.

I'm afraid I would look at the person first, not the tin box he/she
was driving. I guess I just move in a vastly different environment
where a person's skills and knowledge are more important than what car
    they drive.
    Nice.

That's not how "investments" are supposed to work.

Wot a larvely pair of typos, Timo.

    Chambers:

deprecate verb (deprecated, deprecating) to express disapproval of
    something; to deplore something.

depreciate verb (depreciated, depreciating) to fall, or make something
    fall, in value.

What a difference an "i" makes.

Oh bugger. Sir has been reading too many API documents recently,

If I was given the choice I'd take the train rather than drive
anything to Penrith. I really enjoyed it the one day I went up there
by train rather than having to hammer up the M6 hoping the traffic
wasn't about to slow down and leave me at a standstill for an hour or
    so.

Fair point. By the looks of it, it'll lose a grand a year in value.
But then, I didn't buy it new, it was already 6 months old.

I only have a company van but having a the higher spec version is
good. Even down to the simple things like electric windows, CD player
and remote central locking you don't realise how nice they are to have
until you don't have them. I only get these so called perks because
I'm classified as being part of the fabled 'management team' but they
make my working week a lot better. I'd have had the more powerful
engine if it hadn't been for a 6 week lead time but when the
replacement is due then I'll be pointing out that I'm supposed to have
that version and making sure I get it or something better.

**** the tax, I'll have the toys.

God, that brings back memories. That, and filling the car to the last drop
at Dover, and running it on empty as you got back to Calais. Free petrol was
only in the UK, you see. Not for holidays to Spain.

I'd pay the money and have the toys but I'm shallow and everyone knows
it. It's up to the individual and the longer it remains that way the
    happier I'll be.

I'd not be having the toys as status symbols though, it'd be because
they're toys and I want them.

Within seconds of meeting someone I know my view of them- and it very
rarely changes. I call it 'instinct' but I'm more than happy to accept
it's driven by visual cues; clothes they're wearing, car they're
driving, bike they're riding, firmness of handshake, eye contact etc.
    etc.
