Confidence is an odd thing (and a battery tale)

So, after crashing the gixxer on a brand new front tyre 10 days ago, I
fished it out for a ride on Saturday afternoon. This wasn't easy, cos
when I put it away previously, obviously traumatised and in shock, I'd
left the keys in the ignition, and the ignition on. The battery was
flat as a pancake. A couple of hours on an optimate didn't help. So,
I jump started it from the car.

This was interesting - the engine was ticking over, but there were no
instrument lights, no rev counter, no speedo LCD. "It'll perk up, I
thought", and took it out. But, even after a blast up and down the
bypass at high revs, still no clocks. And it misfired below about 4k
(I guess. No rev counter). So, I brought it home and threw a spare
battery from the ZX7R on it (which was the same width and depth, but
not as high. Fitted tho). Everything worked propely, and I fucked
off out for a blast. [I put the gixxer battery on the Optimate, and,
24 hours later, it is showing a green light. Hopefully no permanent
    damage done.]

Right, I thought, lets scrub this tyre in properly. So, I rode it
smoothly, kept on the gas when leant over, braked progressively.
Fine. And then I tried to lean it a bit more, and found I couldn't.
My recently scabbed right knee seemed to say "stop". Eventually I had
to force myself to do a couple of laps of a roundabout to lean it
properly. And then I had to find some left handers to similarly
build confidence on that side. Got there in the end, but it was
surprising (to me) how much of a mental block I had to overcome.

Sounds a bit like "I just ride it" has taken a knock and it's time for
"now how does this work again?".

A little. It's more like my internalised understanding that if I do
*this*, the bike will do *that* had been disrupted, and I had to
re-learn it. Yeah, the same thing, I suppose.

It took me 2 months to get rid of my chicken strips after my similar off
    last year. Embarrassing, it was.

why? Surely big wide chicken strips are standard for R6 riders.

I'm not a standard R6 rider though. I didn't buy the R6, it was given to
    me.

Could it be the self preservation instinct, you haven't bred yet y'see
(AFAIK). Once you've sprogged some young bint it'll be fine.

  19. I know one who does commitment. also does the children thing too.

Seems like some genes got confused in our family.

Old age and the getting of wisdom. Your subconscious is telling you that
you're getting on, you don't heal as fast, and broken bones ache on cold,
damp days in the late afternoon of your life...
