I'm aware of the difference - actually I was referencing this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thing_(film)

I'm not old enough to remember your Thing.

Of Maclean's writing style: "making his heroes fight against seemingly
unbeatable odds and often pushing them to the limits of their physical
    and mental endurance" - it's a sign.

I think a decent sleeping bag and an air/camp bed would be the important
    bits of equipment.

2 sleeping bags and a thermarest will do for me. I've got decent
thermals for wearing when I'm not in a drunken stupor and there's an
MSR stove that works on unleaded sitting waiting to melt snow for
    brews.

I really don't see that it can be _that_ cold compared to Kazakstan in
the winter and anyone who uses the cold as an excuse not to go should
be treated with nothing short of contempt.

Over the next 8 weeks? Why so soon? It's not needed for another four
    months yet!

    I should point out that:

    (a) There's a Very Stern Warning in the Notrun's owner's manual stating
that "Thou Shalt Not Fit a Sidecar".

    (b) I'm not going.

The rest of this month is out so that's October and November to do it.
Leaving December to put some miles on it/one of the MZs back on the road.

I also have a VW camper I want welded and MOT'd for the New Year [1].
    And work.

I should become a lazy bastard upside down head; be a real biker and not
bother with ASLEF because I know my biker bro's will bail me out.

I've never let alcohol get in the way of lunacy, I just use it to
    enhance the experience.

  15. Lovely. That tow socket in the front might be an indicator of its
reliability. Nothing like optimism from the factory.
