Contaminated fuel

I believe I've got contaminated fuel in the Bandit.

I don't wish to disclose how I got contaminated fuel in the tank as I
would be in the running for some shameless & wanton stupidity award.

If I siphon the remaining fuel out of the tank as best I can and then
fill it up with new stuff is that likely to help matters, or will I
have to change the filter, clean the lines and get the carbs flushed
    out?

  2. Depends on what you've contaminated with, how much and whether you've
run the bike or not. IIRC you could be looking at a lot more than just
    carb flushing.

empty the tank. drain the bowls, hopefully they all have plugs. flush
tank with a little clean fuel. refill, let carbs refill, shut off tap
and drain bowls a second time. usually enough

It depends how much diesel you put in there in the first place really
but if "notalot" then watering it down with petrol is just fine.

  7. Yes, much comedy and drama with the silences, but, honestly, how do you
expect people to help you if you won't fess up to being a fuckwit?

You'll have to ask Rope what happens when you run your bike with diesel
in it. 100kms FFS, didn't you know?

Would diesel screw up a bike engine ? I always thought it was bad the
other way round, some prawn putting petrol in a diesel engine, in large
amounts. A mate once filled his Rover 213 with diesel, we drained it,
filled it with proper stuff and it was OK.
As an aside, how the hell does one manage to pick up the diesel tap when
one has a bike to fill?

  14. In uk.rec.motorcycles, BGN belched forth and ejected the following:
You filled it up with fucking diesel, didn't you?

  16. Apparently not. Although I doubt his concerns of contamination are
    likely to cause the symptoms.

Nick - did you try my suggestions of giving the filter a quick blow?
    (intended).

I haven't yet. The bike has been parked up for about a week as I've
been off around the cun'ree with work and I haven't had chance to give
it much of a ride yet.
