Continental Go?

    Anyone tried them?

    I called my local tyre emporium only to be advised that the Conti TKVs
    that I've sworn by for the last erm 20 years are being phased out in
    favour of the new Go.

    Prices are comparable, but it's not clear where the Gos sit in terms of
    grip or wear. If the Gos are nearer to the old TK than the TKV I might
    try some BT45s instead.

    The BT45s?

    Whilst in one respect that appeals (the TKVs last me 2k on the rear and
    3k on the front), I do favour having too much grip on a bike rather than
    too little.

    It's not that I'm able to exploit the grip all the time to shave
    fractions of a second off of my journey times, more that it gives me a
    bigger margin when I cock up.

    everything - Hayabusa, ZX10R...

  8. I'm inclined to agree. I'd rather err on the side of tyre wear than slippy
    in the wet.

    Somewhere between 80 and 12,000 depending on what else is available to
    play with. At the moment it's nearer 80 :-(

    I know, I put it down to enjoying going quickly but being rubbish at
    corners. Lots of acceleration to go quick which wears the rear followed
    by lots of braking for the corner which wears the front, potter round
    corner not giving the edges of the tyres much to worry about. Repeat.

    I'm well into the second rear on the Zed at 5k miles (so a lot better
    than the Beemer) and I used to manage about 4k on the Harley but those
    tyres were made of rockhardium.

    Buy the best tyre you can find, irrespective of price, then - you're going
    to be stuck with it for the next 30 years.

    Which is exactly the problem; if I get one I don't like it's a long time
    until it gets replaced. The fact that the TKVs wear out so quick isn't a
    problem as the consumption rate isn't too high and the fact that they
    were also the cheapest was a bonus.
