    The japs have been running unleaded since 1975, the yanks since 1971.

    If it pings, use a higher octane, if it doesn't ping, go with what you got.

    I'm fairly sure that they weren't 1200cc in 1980 though. In 1980 they
    were either still 1000cc or they'd just gone to 883/1100cc. [1]

    I must confess I too lusted for a Laverda.

    My particular weakness was the later 120degree crank version (in black
    not orange... no road bike should be orange... are you listening KTM?).

    After I while I realised that Laverda's were a little unobtainable and
    started lusting for a LeMans Guzzi (and being a slack bugger even that
    took another 18 years to happen).

    I once chased what my memory told me was a 1200RGS (but which must've been
    a 1000RGS) through Mt Mee.
    He wasn't super fast (I was quicker two-up on my XJ900) but the sound from
    the 120° engine was an orchestra!
    Another reason I'm a bit of a triple fan.

    I suspect the thought of those glorious sounding Laverdass is half the
    reason I ended up buying the Spring ST too clem :)

  13. just remember the Mt. Mee rider memorial (sandstone boulder) on the LH side
    near the dairy farm was for a Laverda rider.

    Yeah, Rad.
    I was camped opposite him at the 1989 GP and I picked him up once when he
    rode through a wire fence and nearly decapitated himself.
    He was a wild man for a born-again Christian!

    He was the Qld president of the Laverda Club and he crashed his Jota coming
    down Mt Mee and got run over by 62 Harley Davidsons going the other way.
    That's gotta' be bad luck!

    Don't think so. The Jota was a 650cc parallel twin with an extra
    cylinder added in the middle at 180º to the other two. Hence the
    "distinctive" sound. The later 1200s were a proper triple.
