Converting "Audible" files to MP3

I have a few Audible files (legitimately obtained, BTW) which I'd like
to convert to MP3 (preferably) for use on my other players, which
    don't support the format.

Does anyone know of any software (preferably free) that can do this
    reliably?

I've Googled and I'm getting confused... but that's not hard to do.

    TIA

I've used this http://www.miksoft.net/mobileMediaConverter.htm to convert
mobile phone stuff into mp3 - dunno if it's any good for what you want.

Just make sure that you don't have any other programs making noises at the
    same time though. DAMHIK,IJD,OK.

    Now, let me guess...

    - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
    - Armando Iannucci's Charm Offensive
    - Matter by Iain M. Banks
    - Sir Charlie Stinky Socks and the Really Big Adventure by Kristina
    Stephenson
    - Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwel
    - Rapid French Volume 1 by Earworms
    - Yes Man by Danny Wallace

    How did I do?

  9. Search for Reaper or Virtualdub.

    Reaper first.

Both free, but Reaper has more power.

Never tried Reaper, but I'd not recommend Virtualdub over Audacity though.
Audacity has a decent user interface for freeware. Vdub is a little more
complicated to use, if you don't know what you're doing. Whilst it can handle
audio stuff, it's not geared to that.

  11. Agreed on Virtualdub, that's why I pushed Reaper first. It is very
intuitive and does so much more than just file conversion.
