  4. Sniping avoids auction fever, which I can well do without. A bunch of
idiots vying to pay as much as possible for a widget just so the other
fool doesn't get it. So, if there's not much apparent interest it can
calm others down and lull them into bidding low, then I come along and
snatch it away from them.... aahahhahahahahahahahahahah!

I think the Golden Age of sniping is past - I've been outsniped on
several occasions recently, but I wouldn't have gone any higher anyway,
so no skin off my nose, there's always another one along shortly.

    and me.

and me - for quite a while now.

I have a host file that redirects the majority of adverts - I don't see
    adverts now.

I was told it may slow things down but it doesn't seem to have done.

Makes no difference at all, if you put your bid in for maximum amount your
prepared to pay and it sells for more than that, then how can you be pissed
    off ?

So, if there's not much apparent interest it can
If youd have bid the highest amout you were prepared to pay with ebay and
someone snipes it from you then it went for more than you were prepared to
pay! whats the problem there ? bottom line is you put your highest bid in
and you cant be sniped!! well you can but you cant be pissed as you mustn't
have put the maximum in you were prepared to pay!!!

but I wouldn't have gone any higher anyway,

I thought that was what everyone did?

Why else be a nerd and have more than one monitor connected to your PC?

  9. Surprisingly very little porn as a ratio of the feed received.
It mostly turns up with links from UKRM.
    Looks over shoulder.
Looks at the four screens on two PCs and the laptop in front of him.
    Says nothing.
    TENSIONS WHAT TENSIONS !!!!!!!

Hint : You have been able to have more than one window on a screen
    since about 1985.

    HTH ;)

  12. But when you are using a video editing program or even good old
photoshop you need one screen for your current work and the other for
the relevant applications applicable to it.

I was being tongue in cheek, as you well know, you scamp. But you were
talking 2 X Browser screens for ebay sniping. Any decent widescreen
will let you have 2 full browser screens side by side.

I've done the dual screen stretched desktop too, but I rarely use it.

  16. I haven't been called a scamp for about XX[1] years!
I find it makes life easier when doing the editing I mentioned above.

    [1] For values of XX > 50.

And if you're thinking DTP, AMX Pagemaker on the BBC B predates the
apple mac based apps, but didn't really make it to other shores so is
    forgotten in the history books.

The odd thing was, I tried the two windows sniping thing yesterday
(and got the high bid, but it didn't make reserve).

Anyway, what I noticed was that the second window opened also had the
countdown facility, but it was running a second or two behind the
countdown in the first window. Also, the bid update was running some
    way behind, as well.

It wasn't a problem, as I took my sniping cue from the countdown on
the first window, and slammed in my bid with five seconds to go. Can
anyone explain why the countdown and especially the bid update wasn't
running simultaneously in the two windows, though?

It's very very likely that they fake it up using javascript rather than
going back to the server for a clock update every second (there's no way
of it being reliably accurate to better than a few seconds, anyway, and
it reduces the load on ebay's servers). So you'd expect a random
selection of windows to be a few seconds out between each other.

I am sorry if this explanation is overly technical. There's not really
any way of putting it that isn't.
