Cool overtrousers?

Cool as in "not hot" - I couldn't give a damn about how they look. Now that
warmer weather is with us I am aware that my usual textile overtrousers get
uncomfortable after a while (the thermal lining is already removed). I
could simply dispense with overtrousers altogether but then I lose the
protection that they offer in the event of an "off". As I do 60 miles plus
most days I would rather have the protection if possible. So...any
suggestions for something that combines cool with some degree of
    protection?

Are you still wearing your office trousers underneath ?

In the summer I tend to leave a pair at the office to change into when I
get there. I find bare legs in the Hein Gericke pants pretty comfortable
    in moderate heat.

Now, you see - that was my first thought, too. Then I reminded myself
that the OP specified /over/trousers and as he refers to "dispense with
overtrousers altogether" infers that he's wearing ordinary (prolly
working-type) trousers underneath his /over/ trousers.

You don't /have/ to prove it every day, Bruce.

The Halvarsson trousers I have seem to work rather well even in higher
temperatures. They're not the CE-approved ones but a "lighter"
version, still armoured and all that. Not that cheap, mind.

It depends on your budget but I've recently purchased a pair of
Halvarssons over trousers and they've got plenty of vents you can open
plus you can zip out the winter lining.

I've just ginged myself by suggesting the very same trousers.

J&S have some mesh type armoured over trousers which look like the ticket

Yeah, I'm wearing office trousers underneath but as I work at a variety of
locations the "leave a pair at the office" strategy doesn't work.

Kinell - they're a bit pricey. Still might be worth a look though.

All trousers are over trousers, they go over your legs :p

And as he intends dispensing of them, then I suggest he drops to armoured
    jeans
If you gave as much thought to things outside the box, then you could
spend less time trying to find TCisms :)
