Just listening to an item on the wireless about Prince William giving his
fiancée his dead mother's engagement ring.

What think you? SWMBO thinks it's one in the eye to his Dad. I just think
    it's deeply creepy.

    OTOH WGAF?

  2. I think passing heirlooms like that through the family is a perfectly
natural and rather nice thing to do.

K said 'cheapskate' and 'he's even tighter than you' when she heard
    that.

It's more usual for a late granny's trinkets to be recycled in this way but
no reason why a late mother's can't, especially as she died yonks ago.

  7. I'm sure the Daily Express will give a **** about anything to do with
    this subject matter ;-)

I, on the other hand, couldn't care less.

It was free, good blag if you can get away with it.

Imagine if one day he could do that with a house too...

Surely nothing on earth could achieve such a task!

Deeply creepy indeed. The ring was given to Diana by his father, who was
subsequently involved in an acrimonious separation and then divorce from
her. Freud would have had a field day with this kind of stuff.

It did at least give rise to a gag:

"Kate Middleton, the first to try to squeeze into Diana's ring since
    Dodi Fayed".

It's better giving it some use instead of just lying around in some
    dusty cabinet somewhere/

It's good to see Diana's ring getting some action after all these years.

Yes, but you'd have thought he'd have given her Buckinghamshire or
    something.

The dead, adulterous mother's engagement ring is a bit creepy.

Don't be ridiculous. Why would anyone possibly want to do that, or think
    it is any way reasonable.

  19. I think it's nice - Diana's ring hasn't had a finger in it since Dodi
