I had a cracked window on the caravan and as these are made from acrylic, the same as a bike screen - I thought some of you might be interested in what I used to repair my window... I did a little searching and found that chloroform is the stuff to use to weld acrylic, except you cannot get hold of it these days unless you have a very tame chemist. So then I did a bit of research on alternative sources of welding chemicals ( it needs to be welded, rather glued for close to original strength). I came up with a company called Bondrite http://bondrite.co.uk/ and asked them for their recommendations. They suggested their WC102 weld cement and a dosing tip to enable this to be done (£5 inc delivery). The double glazed window had cracked along the hinge, the point of highest stress, so I wasn't very hopeful of being able to repair it. In fact the solution worked fine. It just dissolve enough of the surface to form a good strong weld, then sets very quickly. It is a very thin solution, similar to super glue and tracks along the crack by capillary action. It will not fill in gaps, so the edges need to be a perfect match. The acrylic where the solution has touched it, ends up slightly opaque, but this can be polished out. I do have a slight crack in my bikes screen and that will be the next job.
