And breathing that polluted air kills a bunch as well,

If you breathe your healthcare coverage may be voided.

I think Larry wants to live in the the future L.A. portrayed in "Demolition
Man". Let me know if you figure out how to use the "shells"

Why does the gov't deserve "respect"? I thought it was an apparatus
put in place to serve the people? As I see it, the only "respect"
the system deserves is a critical eye to ensure that it does what
    it is supposed to do.
Does your military service trump his right to speak as he sees fit?

Besides, isn't the whole point of the 1st to allow people to
    say "**** the government?"

If that is the bone with which you must contend, and all that you were
able to glean from my comments, then as you wish.

For whatever it is worth, I find it intriguing that critics on the
right tend to use "guvmint" while those on the left write of
"Amerika". I'd rather hit the ignition switch than get too exercised
    about either.

If Larry wants a national helmet law, I want a national ban on sportbikes.
It's that simple. Both ideas are ridiculous, hence the reason I posted
    it.

Some people have no sense of humor. Being a 10 year vet myself (was going
for 20, but a broken back forced a medical discharge in '88), I appreciate
your views, and agree with most of them.

I'll even defend Larry's right to express his views, even if I disagree
    with him (which I do).

  13. ..

    Both ideas are ridiculous,

    Negative...
A national helmet law adds to the economy... banning bikes subtracts
from the economy... the government is spring loaded to adding to the
economy... because subtracting from the economy is political death...

  14. Not if it keeps silly bastards like my uncle off bikes cause they
don't want to ride with a helmet on. More profit in a new bike than a
    new helmet.

Also note that by reducing helmet usage the funeral and medical
industry profits. Both cost way more than a new Arai.

    No; instead it.....

...... causes hard core bikers not to buy new motorcycles, instead they just
drink. Drinking leads to cirrhosis of liver, death, children who require public
aid to attend 4-year institution of "higher learning" where they are brainwashed
into the efficacy of national government edicts.... go to work for government,
causing further drain on taxpayer's beleaguered funds...

    .... AND ...

.....causes greater medical costs because riders who would have been killed w/o
their helmets now survive, but require expensive medical care, thus depriving
starving widows and orphans of much needed free medical care.... orphans starve
to death because their parents die of preventable diseases that weren't
prevented because helmeted motorcyclists survived horrific crashes... orphans
would have invented 192 mpg fuel injection system.... with fuel being cheap,
easily available seawater.... Canadians are forced to build "Second Berlin Wall"
to keep starving hordes of U.S. citizens out of western provinces...
    No; instead it....

..... causes former bikers to buy ever larger, more chrome-laden 4-wheeled
vehicles.... sets off creation of massive aftermarket economy in louder pipes
for 4wd pick 'em ups. Now former bikers find they need two or four cars/trucks
to supply same thrill previously gained from single motorcycle, former bikers
become entrepreneurs to make enough cash for cars/trucks and new 5-car garages
to house same.... Economy blossoms, govt able to provide free medical care to
all citizens based on combined impact of addtl taxes paid by former biker
entrepreneurs and bikers who were *not* killed riding their bikes around after
they were banned... widows and orphans thrive, 192 mpg fuel injection device
patented, device uses cheap, easily available fuel: drool collected from mouths
of unemployed former liberals as they watch the U.S. standard of living
skyrocket to unheard of levels... Canada petitions to become 51rst state; told
they must wait in line, Iraq's application is being processed first.....

So I guess, pretty much, that proves once again just how wrong you are, Larry.

  16. People won't remember a single argument against helmets 50 years down
the road under a national helmet law... all they will be able to think
about... like today... is what's new in bikes???
The funeral homes and the medical world know we can't live forever...
their money is assured one way or the other regardless...

  17. Why, Pete? Why are you bothering to speak of it at all? It was a
gag; a "Just So" story; a cautionary joke; an exaggeration to
    demonstrate a point.

The correct response to this video is: "Hah hah; funny vid!"
Addressing the likelyhood of actually being struck by a sledgehammer
(as so many did) or worrying about the properties of an empty skull
(which was probably made of plastic) is bootless.

Another correst response to this vid is: "Yup. My head is more
vulnerable without a helmet than with one. So? That's MY problem,
    not yers."

But all this analysis of the physical event depicted (and whether the
magician's beautiful assistant's head was ever actually inside the
helmet) is sooooo much wasted O2! It was a GAG, folks! A gag with a
point, maybe (from which one might or might not draw fallacious
political conclusions), but a gag nonetheless.
