Whilst the cage was parked in a car park in Shrewsbury today some arse
hole has either dragged a coin or a handbag down every panel from the
passenger door to the Back light.

When I got home the roofers who were doing a minor repair on my house
roof informed me that we may be looking at a complete re roof. Nothing
lasts these days its only been up there 80 years. Seems it was put up
with galvanised nails and they are starting to rot through.

Looks like the possible signature change will have to wait another
    couple of years.

Anybody know any good roofers in the West Mids / North Worcestershire
area who can give me a second opinion?

Boxerboy - about to go out and drown sorrows.

2 litres of white cider from Spar doesn't cost much

10 litres of bleach is cheaper still, and tastes about the same. The
    hangover's somewhat worse, though...

R C Nesbit took a blunt brush and painted...
If they did that with me I'd pay them the originally agreed £150 and tell
them to go **** themselves for the rest.

No one can do something like that without prior authorisation.

  8. The elderly unfortunately come from an era when construction
companies employed proper tradesmen , who generally lived local were
    honest and were trusted

Still some of these honest business about but they are being driven
to the wall slowly by the cowboys

    I know.

My brother in law used to run a decorating company. Did a very high standard
of work for a reasonable price.

Luckily there were enough people out there who cared enough to keep him
going, but the number of people happy to use cowboys is unbelievable.

I find it unbelieveable how most people are happy to have a wall that looks
like the darts team has been practising on it for months simply painted over.

  10. Trouble is they save themselves a few quid but end up paying out
twice as much in the future

On the subject of qualified tradesmen - anyone know the going rate to have
the pipe connected at the back of a gas cooker?

Isn't it illegal to do your own gas fitting without a corgi certificate?

It's illegal to break the speed limit but nobody really gives a ****
    about that either.

Apparently so. You aren't even allowed to connect up your own cooker
any more - been like that for quite a few years now, but didn't stop me
installing my own cooker when I moved to Worksop. It's only a bayonet
    fitting ffs.

Thought it was the same as it'd always been - you can DIY, so long as
you're "competent", but only registered pros can do it for other people,
    for money or not.

AIUI, the definition of "competent" in this context tends to be "If you
    blow yourself up, you weren't."

But who's going to know? JHC , is this what we've come to , people
    blindly obeying Herr Mandelsons diktats?

TBH I don't even know whether it is or not, the cookers at mum's and she
hasn't even stripped the packaging yet.

Likewise with the cooker main, it fairly recent so might be bayonet fitting.

As Ace said, FFS! So what if it's illegal? I doubt a day goes by where
most of us on here don't break at least one law.
