Over the last few days I have been going over some old photos that I
have and started to scan them in.

I came across a few from a bike show that I went to in the early 1990's,
    and found some good photos.

    Specifically I liked this one

    - what are these bikes actually called? They are not chops as I
understand it, and I have never seen anything like them since - I think
they look ace, the yellow specifically. If I wanted to get something
like it, where would you even start?

Yes they are. Proper, bare-boned chops.

I have no idea what Streetfighters thing has been on TV.

There are a couple of clips on YouTube, if that helps, though.

Oh, that was Nick Sanders (god, how fat was I back then?). Nothing to do
with me at all - I was just an 'expert' on the subject.

A proper chop is a bike that's been chopped down to only the barest
essential components - engine, frame, wheels, seat, tank, brakes
(originally rear only for many bikes), lights.

Today's 'chops' are more tarts handbags.

I always picture chops to have the big bars and massive long front
forks, unlike those shown, look more slammed than chops.

    Id still like one.

Well, the original chops were used a lot for street drag racing, so
slammed would be a pretty good description IMO.

    Interesting stuff.

What engine/transmission might be in this one?
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/gavsta/3124528499/in/set-72157611409025153/

Looks like normal bike transmission but with inline
    for and aft engine?

Maybe its just the exhaust that's odd. Out the front, left, up,
over the top to the right - where it comes into view.
That's what it must be I guess.
