  2. How did that happen? Minimum ban for DD is 12 months, even for a marginal
fail, except in very exceptional 1:10,000 circumstances.

Nope, silly **** is with the RAF based on the north coast of Scotland.
I haven't seen him for over a year and only heard about the ban from
    another mate.

  5. Was it not about 13/14 years back? A mate of mine was clobbered for a
year's ban in a morning after thing, when under the old limit he'd have
    been fine.

  6. Keep him topped up and he will be dead by christmas. Without collateral
    if we are lucky.

I found out this evening he only got his license back earlier this year
    - after a 3 year ban for DD... I suspect there may well be bars in his
    immediate future.

The really daft thing is he went out on the razz last week, & gave his
car keys to a mate to make damn sure he couldn't drive, as he knows
once he gets past a certain point he doesn't gaf. He got a taxi home &
all was well - until 4am when he was woken by the mate's mother banging
    on the door.

Turns out the twat who now had the keys decided he'd drive home, stuck
the car in a ditch, then torched it to try & cover up the fact.

So my mate's now left with six grands worth of car up in smoke for
which the insurance probably won't pay, plus two years of finance left
to pay on it, plus the next day his girlfriend kicked him out. So I
think it's understandable that he went off the rails a tad - but
    certainly not excusable.

I tend to agree - except they probably won't have him back now.

  11. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Krusty
Oh yes, and not the sort he's used to.

Looking on the bright side, he doesn't have to worry about where he's
going to spend Xmas any more.

Another DD within ten years of a previous ban is considered 'habitual' by
    courts who
then think well a ban didn't work in changing his behaviour, what else can
    we do?

Ah yes, play the go to jail card

His only possibility of staying out is:-
Immediate guilty plea and show of contrition.
Employer states that he is needed and no licence will not hamper him.
He switches to push bike/taxi/public transport.
He attends AA type meetings to deal with his issues.
Regular blood tests and character references to state he has 'reformed'.

The probability of this working is low to slim, but is better than none to
    FA.

  16. Shafted, 3X is pretty much what my brother got banned for many years
back. They won't be more lenient now so it will be at least 2 years.
There's sometimes an option to reduce the ban if he excepts compulsory
retraining[1] as part of the sentence but I believe it's only 3 months
    reduction.

[1] Which has to be paid for, the current rate appears to be £100pd

Dunno, I don't know the bloke, all I know is he's a twat (from other
    things not the DD).

May very well have been a ban for something else and I misunderstood.
The second conviction was definitely DD though.

  20. A mate got done last night for being 3x the limit. He's just left
Most army jobs require some form of being able to drive - would they
touch a re-entrant if they had a DD conviction? not with a bargepole, I
suspect. Also - if he was serving and got a ban for DD it is likely he
would be booted out, if driving were a specific part of his job.
