Unlike Knobby, I found the infusion pumps (morphine) more than adequate.
Just kept setting my mobile phone for 15 mins countdown and had a very
relaxed 24hrs after gall bladder surgery complications. :)

  3. You'd be surprised what people believe will help them. Some even believe
that nurses are caring, sharing types who actually are interested in a
    patient's last bowel motion.

Sometimes I think a career in landscaping gardening would be easier.

  4. Probably, end of a rough day, but true enough. Doctors come in, say "ohh I
don't like using large doses of opioids because patients enjoy it too much
and get hooked so I'll underdose this patient here who might actually need
it", or similar. Patients say "ooh, my uncle Rodger had morphine/pethidine
and it knocked him out and then he got hooked on it and it destroyed his
life and gave his dog multiple sclerosis, so even though my pain is
excrutiating and I can't move becauase of it I'll turn down the offer of
    morphine".

    Aren't they? <puzzled look>

Previous experience, back then in Scotland, was that copious quantities
of strawberries, chocolate and Grand Marnier helped, but even here in
Oz, I have nothing but nice things to say about nurses.

    (You included, you sweet thing!)

At least the conversations about shit would be a lot less personal.

I just said "I'll let you give me morphine once you find me a phone so I
can call my wife, because if I pass out before I call her it's going to
hurt _WAY_ worse than just broken bones."

I'll swap them some dandelion tea for their pethedine any day ...
