So, a nice frosty ride of 1 mile to put the GSX-R in for it's service.

Get chatting to the staff in the shop about general things and then find
myself asking to sit on the new K4 GSX-R600 they have.

Find it's distressingly more comfortable then my current one and a whole lot
    nicer [1].

Then find myself asking them to give me an idea when I collect mine later
how much it would cost to swap it for a GSX-R750K4.

At least I haven't signed anything yet.

Or phoned the insurance company to ask how much to upgrade [2] - that should
    put me off.

[1] the whole finish is MUCH nicer then the K2 - the plastics look better
quality, they just seem to have made an effort whereas with the K2 they just
sort of stuck bits where they fit - it continues for the whole bike, the
swingarm , the brakes etc. The reach to the bars is less, the tank is
    smaller too.

[2] Do they take NCB from the date of the claim, or the date of the end of
the policy expiration? It'll be two years at the end of March since I had my
last claim (touch wood) so just wondering like...

Date of policy expiration AFAIK, unless you totalled your bike which caused
the policy to cease (some cheaper policies (usually Lloyds) have such a
clause, or at least used to when I sold motor insurance).

Nah, I just remodelled the front [1] a bit.

    Curses.

    Good.

    Curses.

[1] and the sides, and a bit of the back.

How much, and what are they offering to pay for yours?

    I find that out later.

After they've discovered that I ride like a girl and have moss growing in
    the cylinders :)

    I doubt they'll say that.

I always found it interesting just how much of a mark up they make on
used bikes compared to the PX value. it was the SV you crashed though
wasn't it, not the gixxer, so other than general wear and tear it should
    have held it's value ok.

Yes, but in fairness the SV when I traded it in was nigh on 100% new as most
of it has been re-built! I also got a pretty good trade in for the SV
    against the GSX-R.

The GSX-R has indeed (thus far) not been crashed. It has fallen over once,
but that did absolutely nothing to it (thankfully).
The only damage aside from the usual wear and tear is a cracked mudguard due
to the standard disc lock issue.

So yes, I will be interested too - the 'official' price of the 750 is £7600,
I will be interested to see what they knock it down to.

That's what I am expecting - it's a group 16 bike, but seems to be grouped
in the same way as the group 17's, probably because
    it's crashed a lot.

I see the new GSX-R600 is group 15 (previously 14) so not a lot in it
    really.

  11. Oh dear :)
Bwahahahahaha. I knew I was right. When's the test ride?
Yet. You will, you will, you will, you will.
Policy expiration - due to the timing of my bike purchases, one claim
and renewal dates on multi bike policies I have lost one year of no
claims as a result of my policy renewal date moving by 3 months.

    Exactly what I thought.
    Never. .... .................
Seriously I think this will be the factor that puts a stop on it. I've only
JUST got the 600 insurance under £900 - and that's on a year old, group 14
    model.
Especially if this is the case. 1 yr NCB + a claim still on record is
unlikely to do me enough favours to make it reasonable :)

They're offering me £3650 for the 600, which would leave £4000 if the 750
    was purchased at 'RRP'.

TBH, it's a bit much for the moment - especialy considernig there is nothing
wrong with the 600 (aside from needing a replacement gear lever soon due to
    it starting to sieze up)

If things change later in the year work wise then absolutely, but not right
    now.

I guessed it'd be about 3.5K, yours is an 02 plate IIRC?
Sounds like you'd be better selling it for that privately, then going in
and asking for 10% discount for cash.

Thinking about it I'm probably going to flog the SZR privately this year
and get a 600 again as a second bike, don't think I'd go the PX route
again though. I might even be interested in yours after I'd sold the
    SZR.

Nothing will need replacing. Take off the footpeg, and remove the
gear lever, liberally grease all the pivots, especially where it
pivots on the footpeg and all will be well. This happen on my 750 to
the extent that it wouldn't even change down gear and I though the
gearbox was fucked. Common thing apparently, there is a plastic bush
and road salt causes it to swell and sieze up.

I know - the mechanic said exactly that and explained exactly what happens.
It's apparently some sort of fibre and plastic bush that gets progressively
    worse as it gets older.
Note they didn't say "you must get it" - he said that it would need
    replacing eventually and that unfortunately
Suzuki view it as 'normal wear and tear'. £50 odd for a new lever as
apparently they don't provide the part seperately.

He's done exactly what you suggested but he did say that eventually even
that stops working and you have to replace
    the gear lever.

Trevor Goodall in Didcot do seem _very_ good - they charge MUCh less then
Colin Collins ever did, for similar work
plus the mechanics are friendly, don't mind talking for ages, are happy to
point out things that they could just as easily bullshit about
and seem to do a good job.

August 02, with 13k on the clock.

Apparently most GSX-R's of that age will have around 5k on them.

I looked in my logbook - I did 5k in the first month. I've only done 1800 in
    the last six months.
If I trade up, I will take the trade in - just can't be arsed with the
hassle of possibly making a few hundred quid extra

Sounds a bit like me and the ZRX 02 plate 14K.. but work kind of got in
the way over the last 6 months or so.

    I reckon it's good for 85k+..
Your call. Feel free to drop me an e-mail in advance though, I'll let
you know right away whether I'm in a position to buy.
