Just doing day 2 /5 of my DAS around guildford and the snow
and crap is getting my confidence down a bit.

How I dealt with a down hill tight (to me) right hand bend
    country lane National Speed limit.

I knew how to do it and had slowed down bout 15mph
like the signs said but eventually touched the mud at the
left edge of the road by going in too early/too fast? and
then stared transfixed at the edge and forgot everything
I've learned , must have pulled the clutch in at some point
pulled everything and skidded upright a few meters at
slow speed along the edge of the road.

Couldn't even move the handlebars in the panic or look
round the bend once it started to go, it should be a confidence
thing and now i'm leaning away from the bend round tight
corners, and being told all the right things , lean in, look
out of it, adjust for camber it's only after making the
mistake I remember to do it and so on back and forth
IYSWIM. even roundabouts now seem dodgy.

If this text is all fucked up i'm going to cry :(

All I can say is bravo, what an excellent choice of timing to do your DAS
course ) But at least you get to learn the worst of it early on.
You'd be forgiven for having a hard time of it as an early starter. I don't
think many of us would willfully want to ride today. I certainly thought
    better of it.
Trouble is that learner rider schools can't really afford to not let people
    out, I suppose.

Heh, stay with it. As the other bloke said, if you make it through this
with your enthusiasm intact, summer will be a real treat.

I did my test after a weeks's CBT/DAS, and it poured with rain, it sort of
    added to the occasion.

Best of luck, keep us posted on progress.

    Hey Rob,

I wouldn't worry about it mate, day 2/3 of my DAS and I did pretty much the
same thing. Well, apart from ending up on my arse with the bike in a ditch
at the road side. Went into (what I thought was) a fairly tight bend at what
I thought was the right speed, leant it, realised that I didn't think I
would make it and then made the mistake of looking where the bike was going,
instead of where I wanted it to go. Luckily I was only doing about 10mph and
I had a soft landing, still s**t me up no end tho!

I guess we picked the right week for it :)

Good luck with the test, I'm sure you'll do fine!

FWIW I reckon you've got cause and effect confused here. You touched the
    mud coz you target fixated.
Well, I did post CBT, on my DAS and even (very nearly) on my bikesafe course
    last year so chin up.

You've chosen the best time of year to start. As others have said, if
you're still alive come April, you'll have a head start.

    God luck.

Yes - those kickstarts are a bugger when you are dead.

    <exciting bit snipped>

An off (or near off) affects nearly everybodies confidence IMHO.

If you're still riding and you've learned something from the event then
    you've gained overall.

Keep at it - after the snow goes you'll have weeks of fun on the
slippery 'salt' they use on it.
