Any one interested in taking up this place?

£150 for two full days of assessed riding by a top notch ex[1]- police
intructor taking in South Wales and the SW of England.

Accomodation in Bristol would need to be organised unless you're local or
    can ride down each day.

Reply here or, ideally, email me at if interested.

[1] though he seems to still be working :)

Why would anyone want to do that?
And why would anyone want to pay?

    Good questions, both.

I'd sort of quite like an assessed ride to see if I'm as good as I
think I am. But I don't really want to pay for it.

You could try stealing Dave's time I suppose.

You know, I reckon if you asked, Dave just might do an assessment for
    nothing...

Your reputation procedes you as it were.

Hmm. Dunno if that's good or bad.

Still, I'd quite like an assessment, which I wouldn't expect to take
more than a hour or two. Wouldn't want to spend 2 days over it.

IMO, Dave concentrates on going faster, safer. I don't know what he'd
do with someone who's already fast and safe. If nothing else, you'd
have a damn good ride. He was good enough for Taberner, so he's good
    enough for me.

Indeed - he had quite a few tales to tell of chasing Mat (and vice versa).

    Yersh. Thanks for that.

I'm more interested in his professional view on how "safe at speed"
(or however you want to term it) I am. Do I go faster than safe for
    the conditions?

I don't think you'd need to - as alluded to elsewhere you're already a fast,
safe rider and probably wouldn't learn that much from it.

Which is why I'd say 1- 2 hours would probably be ideal for you as it would
pick up anything that was 'bad' or just re-affirm
that you are a riding god ;-)

The rest of us who haven't got your years of experience aren't quite so
    lucky...

It's not only the riding though - it's nice to get out for two days on
different roads learning different things and getting perspectives from
someone who literally has seen just about it all.

Well, yes. I know Mat rated him, and I respected Mat's opinion on
such things. I know I can ride a bike, and I'm not dead yet (not do I
seem to have many near misses) - maybe I'm just after an ego trip. I'm
sure if I came in for some serious criticism I'd have problems
    accepting it.

Kiran and I were with Geoff not Dave. He asked us not to go over 100,
thinking of his own licence. Well, he said we could but he wouldn't
follow, and there's no point paying for someone to assess you if they
    can't see you.

We took a tiny, empty road towards Ross-on-Wye (might have been the
B4521, looking at streetmap). I led, and I rode as well as I ever
have. I felt comfortable, smooth and fast. I don't recall a
particular maximum speed, though. We stopped for a debrief. Geoff
asked me how I felt, and I said "great". He said that he felt he was
at the limits of what speeds he felt comfortable with on his
(personal) K1100RT. I asked him if, as a copper, he'd have nicked me
for doing those speeds down that road in those conditions, if he'd
spotted me and was on-duty. He said no, because it was good and fast,
not bad and fast. nice to know.

  20. Well Dave imposed no limits on Mat and I. Obviously I was a slow coach
when set against Mat. All I can say is that at one point we were going
across Salisbury Plain. I was at one side of the Plain and Mat with Dave
close behind was at the other side several miles ahead!. Mat must easily
have been doing 120 or so on the Africa Twin!

Dave still provided suitable and appropriate feedback to Mat which
recognised his skill level and was not remotely patronising.

I'm sure that Champ would get decent feedback that wouldn't damage his
    ego too much ;-)
