Shit.

Watching the trailer is far cheaper. No, the effects are great but he script is risible. And there are no characters to care about or even be interested in. Bald kid with no spoon from Matrix has a cameo. Class dialogue though: [Hero and anonymous NPC hiking through the snow to save son. NPC collapses. Hero turns and asks "Are you all right?"]

I loved it ;p I'm crazy about spectacular weather effects anyways. Yes the acting was a bit on the stiff side and the dialogue wasn't great but the effects were stunning and the human reaction to disasters was realistic enough. I've seen less credible films lately, ffs (The Core, 28 Days Later, Freddy vs Jason[1] et al). [1] Don't bother, it's really REALLY shite.
This says it all (from IMDB): "Roland Emmerich confided that the Statue of Liberty would be turned over by the force of the massive amount of water flowing around it but said he wanted to create a symbol of American values that stood up to the forces."
At some points it threatens to go the spoof route. Divorcing parents, teen love, terminally ill child, caring President, wise-cracking black guy, courageous "who's going to watch your back" buddies. However, no singing nun.

Be amazed at the snow, water and wolves. Try not to listen to the dialogue from the 1 dimensional characters.
I kinda assumed it was being done for laughs - as noted on NTK, there seems to be deliberate pauses after each line of crap dialogue to add your own sarcastic comment. Actually, I thought the wolves CGI was /very/ obvious for a modern movie.
