  1. Just purchased a 12V weatherproof plug for the FJR. Is it easy to wire it in
or should I leave it a professional. any idea of the cost?

    Hey Richard,

Still adding goodies to the blue beast I see! Good stuff. You may recall
chatting with me at your dealer in Parra as I was deciding on the next bike.
I'm sure by now you've seen that I ended up with a Blackbird and am having
as much fun with it as you appear to be having with the FJR.

You'd have done your 100k by now, yes? BTW, having not ridden mine in
summer (duh), I can only guess how hot it will be as the engine does produce
a fair amount of heat. I think I recall you purchased some airflow bits for
your bike (correct?). Do these help you in both hot and cold conditions?

As for your original question - I know zip/fvck-all/nothing/squat-diddly
about wiring the plug in but I'd guess you should find it a walk in the
    park.

Hope to catch up one of these days,

  3. the air flows have been great for the winter riding but may have to consider
taking them off or changeing foot position for summer, could get a bit
toasty. As for the seat heat, can get a bit warm if sitting still in traffic
but just slide back a bit and its ok. Have done more km on the FJR since
june than I had done in the last 18 months on the peg. Planning on going out
west end this month to meet up with the Yamaha safari team. Tribe members
have been invited as guests by Yamaha Australia. Aslo planning on going to
the gathering. Not sure what my summer season will be like as am in the NSW
RFS and if the last 2 years are anything to go by its gonna be another busy
one. Then again have been on more hazard reductions this winter than the
last 3 years combined so that could keep it in check.

Still waiting on my top box and tank bag (now 6 months since ordered and 3
since bike picked up) and am considering the idea of a trailer. any one got
some ideas on a good model for an FJR.

You know how your 'bird doesn't leak much of that heat onto you in winter,
    when you'd like a bit...

Someone let Zebee Johnstone at loose on an internet
    connection and the result was:
option 1; take um directly from battery thru inline fuse << battery can be
    flattened by accessory
option 2; find spare accessory fuse in fuse box, should be one << key must
    be in accessory position
option 3; use accessory power to trigger relay, switching from battery <<
better if you want to draw a fair bit of power through your accessory
socket, reduces load through the ignition switch

The cig lighter plugs are not the best and vibes can cause
    intermittent disconnections.
Have a look at the plugs on the BMWs, they are a much more positive
    connection.

Wiring is easy as long as you watch the polarity.
Use fuses, the spade types are better.

Someone let Theo Bekkers at loose on an internet
    connection and the result was:
yes cig lighter plug / socket no good for use in applications involving
    vibration or high current,
ashdowns or your local auto elec have connectors used in industrial / fridge
/ charge drill battery etc. applications...
if you are intending to use it for low current draw (light / charge phone
etc.) when stationary cig lighter will be fine...not weatherproof tho

Yeah I had to ride 30 ks without gloves on mine.

Last friday night I went to Dandy(vic) on me bird for a chat with some old
panel shop mates. A few hours later when it came time to leave I realised
I'ld left my helmet and gloves in the other factory which had been locked up
and I had noway of getting in. Luckily this other panel shop which i knew a
few doors down had an old open face Harley Davidson helmet all masked up, in
beige primer and some welding goggles i could borrow :).

I looked like a real dick with it on but thankfully it was dark and most
lights were green on the way home.
