If you're not going to ride it then why not get something exotic like a Manx
Norton or something. When people take the piss at you not riding it you can
just say its broken again - or is that why you're going down the ducati
    route?

Yep. When I wanted a GPZ500, I went there. After waiting some minutes
for the manager (who was minding the shop) to finish his personal
phone call, I asked if I could sit on one. He waved a hand airily in
the direction of the other shop front across the road. I went in, no
staff there at all, all the bikes crammed in so tight there was no way
I could make my way to the lonely GPZ in the corner, so I went away.
Bought privately, minter with 200 miles on clock. Took said GPZ to
Pegasus for its first service after a few weeks - same guy minding
shop, on phone again, once again, obviously a personal call. After
collecting bike, didn't run properly. Sorted breather tube problem
myself and vowed never to set foot in there again.

Not quite. I used to get my Ducati serviced at Daytona in Islington.
    No problems with them.
