    I saw someone get a Carrera 4S over 180 on the M40.

it is totally boggling how some landowning **** can be permitted to inflict
such daily misery on vast volumes of traffic. there's another one of those
on the a23 just after pease pottage, although that at least manages to make
it to two lanes instead of something narrower than your average b road.

a friend of my mother's, who used to be a (the?) chief constable of thames
valley police, had this to say on the subject:

"if there's enough space for you to overtake them on the inside, they are
not returning to the left hand lane in violation of the highway code and
should be booked themselves. address the cause not the symptom."

she lobbied for years to raise awareness and try to reverse the growing trend
of lane-squatting, but eventually went off to work in the us: probably gave
    up in disgust.

Which is what you, I, or any other sane person thinks. However, you
try saying that to a copper when you're sat in the back of an unmarked
    Volvo.

Just because somebody else is doing something in violation of the
Highway Code, it doesn't automatically mean that *you* can get away with
doing something that's only possible because of their action.

In other words: two wrongs don't make a right.
