Death on a Harley?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, May 6, 2007.

  1. Hypothetically speaking, if one had finally decided that this world was
really not worth the effort, and one fancied going out in a blaze of
glory on a Harley, what would be the most sure-fire method?

  4. Buying a Harley should be sufficient.

Failing that, handcuffing yourself to one and riding it like a sprot
bike, along say, a canyon road, would probably do it. "highway" 23,
south to the coast would be almost surefire.

Remove an easily manageable part[1], such as a foot peg, & drop it on
    your head[2].

[1] You may need the help of a couple of stout fellows to help you lift
    it.

Have the pick up towing the trailer drive under a real low bridge at
high speed while you are sitting on your bike.

Is there something additional that you'd like to share?

I guess that refitting the Harley with all the OEM's stock
parts(read exhaust) would be sufficient for a death sent-
    ence.

First of all IMHO anybody riding a Harley deserves a death sentence,
bunch of sidewalk commandos. As you can tell I have no love for that
overpriced, under engineered piece of shite.

But to do so on a motorcycle is actually tougher than it appears.
Remember the human body is much tougher than we give it credit for. I
don't remember the exact stats, but fatal accidents are less common
than we give bikes credit for. You could I suppose plow into a
freeway support, or a wall, or just jump off the road on a bridge.
But the human body has an amazing self preservation instinct. So it
maybe tougher than it looks. I know from past experience in
teaching. just teaching to dump a bike at speed is pretty tough. I
have done it many times and I still have to really force myself, even
though I know I am not going to get hurt.

So yes you CAN do it, but there are a lot of other methods that are
better. Especially since the possibility of just hurting yourself is
    pretty high.

Well, definately not accelerating into a wall. Assuming you knew of a wall
at the end of a 50 mile straight, downhill with a following wind, the
bloody thing would just go through it.
