Hmmm... I wonder... how would I tell?

Ah, I know! The scratches where they had to use some mole grips from the
boot of one of the nurse's Minis to unscrew the slide hammer from the
nail are a bit of a give-away... Ti wouldn't have scratched, would it?

Try giving her something cheap and yo'd know soon enough.
It's a **** to polish, I know that, but not difficult to scratch.

Jeez! There can't have been much bone left.
    What did she do?

Sorry to piss on your theory but titanium would have scratched.

The biggest advantage of titanium is it's lightness relative to it's
strength and wear resistance rather than it's absolute strength.

Okay... how about: it looks and feels like surgical steel rather than
    titanium. Is that good enough?

There wasn't and what was left was in a fucking lot of pieces. Most of it's
now back together, but one bone needs shortening, so it's got to be cut and
then replated and they'll leave the new plates in. Had everything gone
according to plan, the original plates would've been left in too, but
(obviously) things didn't go as well as she'd have liked.
Had a bit of a scrap with a lampost after jumping off the back of the bike.
    Unfortunately, not intentionally.

I was offered one of those, but I declined. I healed ok in the end,
but the process was more extended without the nail.

TBH, I didn't want to go back into surgery to have it removed. Nor did
I want the ache (i'd heard) associated with having it in.
I had 2 weeks traction, it wasn't so bad. I was more concerned about
infection, as I had a fairly big wound near the site of the break,
    which could have been nasty.

The bloke opposite me had taken a dive out of a second floor window
whilst p!ssed, and he was a good laugh, which made time pass easier.

Good to hear she's on the mend.

Them lamposts can be fucking hard bastards you know?
    :)

Having it out (once I got around to it) wasn't so bad. And I can't
    remember any particular ache.
    2 weeks? ****. That.

I was out of bed (on crutches) the next day, which meant I never had to
use the dreaded bed-pan. (Although the nurse did have to carry the drain
bottle thing and put it down on the toilet floor for me.)
Ah, yes, that would complicate things.
Yeah, stuff like that helps. The lad opposite me had done something
nasty to his leg during training for going to the Falklands (IIRC), and
had been in and out of hospital ever since. We got pizzas delivered to
the day room, and his family brought me baccy.

Depends what sort it is, and how old you are, I think.
Pffft... football socks were all the protection I needed.

Aye, well, I wasn't stupid enough to break both legs at the same time.

Can't remember how long it was before I could put weight on it, though.

Sure; "if something's worth doing, it worth doing well".
Yeah, even with "under the armpit" crutches, there's still a fair bit of
    weight through your hands.
