Budget is my Fazer 600 ('02, Blue, 9.5k miles) plus 2.5k

I reckon I should be able to get 2.4k trade in (TOG?) against something
worth around 5k at a dealers. Maybe 2.7k as a private sale?

I want something in the sports/tourer range. Obvious suspects:

    VFR800 (not VTEC)
    Sprint ST (955)
    Ducatis ST3 (?)

Looking for something with a bit nore "grunt" than than the Fazer (which
is no slouch itself), top speed isn't important, comfort and wind
protection are. I'd also like to have *some* storage space on the bike
for e.g. lock, chain etc which the VFR doesn't of course. I might be
interested in hard luggage at some point (pretty unimportant in the
buying decision on the whole though).

    cheers

Where did you get that idea from?

There's underseat storage on a VFR.... not a lot, granted, but you can
get a D-lock from Honda that's designed to fit under there.

Thought that's what I had read - perhaps it was the VTEC model with that
more limited space owing to the underseat 'zorsts.

The VTEC has, ISTR, no storage space at all under the seat.

The non-VTEC has enough room for a D-lock, fairly hefty disc lock plus
the toolkit, penknife/toolkit thingie plus some rags and a small bottle
of visor cleaner. I've also squeezed in a fag lighter socket for my GPS.

OK that's good - it has just earnt itself some more points on the
    practicality scale.

SteveH emerged from their own little world to say
There was similar space under the seat of my CBR600. Only the specific
Honda device would fit as it was a different width to ABUS and Oxford
items. I already owned an ABUS Granit and was not going to spend £70 (in
1999) on an inferior Honda product.

  8. If you want grunt Sir wants A Spring ST 955. Loads of them about at the
moment with the new model out.
Plenty of space on the Sprint
If you but a Sprint St you will have it for life. It knocks spots off the
VFR. Especially two up with luggage.

He should get a Fireblade... enough conveniently accessible space under the
pillion seat, to fit in a big lock, packed lunch, and even some cans of ale.

He should have lashed it up on the fairing brace, and fitted a sub in the
    boot.

  13. Jeremy laid this down on his screen :
The underseat storage is quite good on the VFR, especially if it is
free of alarms and similar. There is even a spot for a lock, if you do
not mind buying the lock from Honda.

Stop trying to confuse the poor lad. He's given us his selection
criteria. Based on those the decision is clear. He wants a nice ZN1300,
    he does.
