Fitting a new air filter was uneventful, and my muse failed to arrive. I only had to undo six bolts, ffs. Oh, and eight screws. The old one looked a bit clogged - full of dead insects, and dandelion seeds. Emboldened, I resolved to change the plugs. First one came out okay, looked okay, and its replacement went in fine. The second refused to budge, so I troggled off to Halfords to get a new 12mm plug wrench - the Honda one is made of stale cheese, and deforms when any torque is applied to it. They had one, and I rushed off home. It was one of those loop handled jobbies, and while it fits snugly over the plug, it sits so deep into the head, the handle has to remain in line with the socket, and no torque can be applied. Bugger. So, until my newly ordered 12mm deep plug socket arrives, I'm stumped. -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SEV/CBR1100XXX/CBX1000Z |_\_____/_| ..87918../..23274.../..31893. Could you get an adjustable spanner, mole grips, or similar, on the bit of handle that's sticking out the top?
Even sticking a 19mm spanner through the loop didn't help - the open end of the loop kept threatening to ping out of the holes. -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SEV/CBR1100XXX/CBX1000Z |_\_____/_| ..87918../..23274.../..31893. I never use a torque wrench on plugs. This is a) because without taking the tank off that would be impossible on the Nordie or the Morini (Voxan plugs - don't ask), and b) because when doing a plug chop or two in a lay ICBA. I therefore use a tiny bit of copper grease and 'nip' the plug up with a tube spanner. For the Nordie I have a nice long one with a hex shaped solid bit at the top [1] that protrudes far enough that you can get a 13mm open ended spanner on. For the Morini a straight box spanner and a small tommy bar does the same thing. Never had a plug come loose or seize. Nice try, and I know what you mean. There was a tiny, tiny, smidge of grease on there. How is it, when you want to order a single socket, for three and a half quid, that somehow you manage to get free P&P on an order totalling over £53? -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SEV/CBR1100XXX/CBX1000Z |_\_____/_| ..87918../..23274.../..31893. SD wrote I dunno how but I do know such things are not necessarily confined to motorcycle accessories, unless 45 quid for a set of new strings for me Banjolele and some other stuff I *really* need will make me ride any better.
It's that "really need" bit that's fatal. My gaff is stuffed with bitsnbobs I really needed at the time. Most of them did, in fact, find the use for which they were bought, but not with the degree of urgency I purchased them with.
