In WA too. There is an urban (country) legend that people who die on country
roads are dumb city people not used to driving at higher speeds. Most
country deaths are actually country people, predominantly young people, on
the way home from a social function. They drink and have no option to get
    home but drive.

I believe that many of them aren't drunk, just tired. Long trips to
get anywhere, driving at night after a long day, or driving in roo
    country at dusk or dawn.

More and more have jobs a long way from where they live as the work
dries up and not all are working on a farm where they live.

I have similar stories, but by god if they ever catch you speeding....
I have a car that has an agreed value insurance policy valued about about
    twice the market price :)

    You are kidding right?!!?
Rod speed is a literate, knowledgable, intelligent poster (who just happens
    to like calling people names).
I don't think they're even the same SPECIES!

That's the problem with kids today[1]. They need everything
spoon fed to them on a silver platter. Or something.

GB, fu*k, am I this old and grumpy already?

    Amen brother... Say it brother...[1]

Interesting. Way back when I was an NRMA victim, I read a letters
to the idioter page in "The Open Road" where one random punter got
all self-righteous and announced that he always drove at 10Km/h
under the posted speed limit, for safety porpoises.

To my utter surprise (given TOR's status as a 'family magazine'
'n' all, the editor/respondent held little back in tearing strips
of the bugger for pretty much all the issues you've highlighted
above. Pretty much told him that he was downright dangerous and
should fu(k right off, etc, etc.

Truth be known, the old prick probably cancelled his life
membership the very next day! (and burned his copy of TOR
so his wife wouldn't see it!)
