I suppose it's a possibility but it's more a name that should be
    earned than given iyswim.

Talk about stating the bleeding obvious.

It's quite sad when people post absolute bollocks on here without
realising that there are probably several people with first hand
experience of the subject waiting to rip them to bits.

Several? I'd suggest that the overwhelming majority of regulars have first
    hand experience of absolute bollocks.

In years gone by, didn't there used to be two experimental HTP-powered
    boats called Exporer and Excalibur?

AKA 'Exploder' and (something like) 'Excruciator' as named by the
    crews, IIRC.

  6. Yes, and I'd heard the 'Exploder' nick, too.

The Royal Navy dickered around with German technology (for such it was)
for quite a few years after the war, before deciding that it was just
    *too* dangerous.

  7. Even the Canaries have subs now.

Sixy mill a pop, for a fully kitted example. Heard the owner of the
business on the radio yesterday, talking about rich dudes and their
newest toy/status symbol. Most of the ones he sells are for the tourist
    industry.

I'd love to have a sub, I'd torpedo all the jap's whaling fleet.

No, merely a bit of water ingress. Which caused a fire IIRC.

And maybe some commentators should have noted that I said "out of fashion"
rather than "obselete". Obviously some pikey navies will still be wearing
    flares or kipper ties.
Not everyone can get access to the necessary technology.

  13. Ah, right - istr a bit of a fuss at the time, with helicopters standing
    by.

You'd have thought that even a moose shagger would know that sailing a
submarine with the hatches open is a bit stupid...

Don't laugh because that's what they did. Other tales of incompetence
get told but they might be a bit too naughty to be posted on here.

Well yes, especially in choppy conditions.
Another yes, my chum was the Brit liaison in Canada at the time dealing
with the "contractual issues" surrounding the event. Many tales of
fuckwittery. Of course, from the Canuckistan perspective, it was all our
    fault for selling them shite.

  17. I have to say that I can't fault the NHS in sorting my hernia out.

Newham General too (who seem to be the devil incarnate behind Whipp's
Cross around these parts) did everything they said they would do, when
they should and the maximum wait for any appointment made was 15
minutes; and that came with an apology.

The operation was pleasant (as much as one can be) and the staff were
helpful, friendly and prompt in any assistance. I got a room instead of
a ward which came as a surprise.

If that's the NHS I'm paying for, bring it on.

  18. Well in my little world, that goes down as the great. It was a trauma
free experience and NGH are well up in my estimations.

    It's a start.
