After my test ride on his imaginary R1 [1], I was pleased when Des offered me a spin on his new BMW. Under the strict French licence laws, all newly qualified bikers are restricted to an imaginary motorcycle for two years. Having recently completed this probationary period, Des has now joined the real world in the form of a BMW K100-LT. My test ride got off to a bit of a bad start when the bike toppled over before I could even get on it. The cause of this inbalance was proved to be poor loading on Des's behalf. He had put all his arrogance in one pannier and all his humility in the other pannier, thus causing the bike to be permantely unbalanced - an not unapt state of affairs. After putting his crucification complex into the neary empty humility pannier the bike felt safer, if still not extactly stable Having hauled the bike upright, I set off on my way. I was somewhat perturbed to find that the front brake lever had been removed - Des later told me this was for safety reasons - and I was grateful that french motoring laws are farily relaxed about running over pedestrians. In order to fully assess the bike I took it for over a mile long spin and was delighted to find no major faults. Obviously the electrics, fuel pump, rear shock and ABS all packed in during the ride but Des assured me that this was perfectly normal for a bike of this sort and that the dealer would shortly be fixing the faults - just as soon as Des could find out where he had moved to. So to summarise this is a robust sporty motorcycle that is let down by a few niggling faults such as starting, stopping and not wobbling all over the fucking place.
