As motorcyclists, a mate and I got a bit of a serve at the servo...
(ha ha!, yeh... what else would you expect??), at Omeo today. The
silly season has arrived and it has brought out all and sundry.
Sat arvo saw a group leaving a few blackies about as they travelled
north from Bruthen. Might be something to do with Benelli's involved??
Anyway, on a warm Sat. arvo the local policeman at Omeo, was enjoying
himself having a hit of tennis at a site giving a view to the road coming
    into
    town.
His estimate.... a bike travelling ~ 200kph in the 80 kph zone.... (this
    must
extend for a distance of ~ 2kms at least so doesn't appear out of no-where),
suddenly arrives at the "T" intersection of the main street.
The bike locks up, leaves a *long* brake mark through both lanes,
goes through the intersection, barely misses a power pole and the
supporting guy-wire and ends up somewhere on the other side in
someone's ivy patch. That was one of 3 "events" for the day. There are
some trends emerging, and no doubt there will be some compensatory
action commencing in the near future. The locals are sick of the
    cleaning-up,
and the continual reports from motorists about the idiots who persist in
passing on double lines and on blind corners.
We (of E. G'land) hoped that the Reefton might have remained the site for
    the
cowboys, but unfortunately that's but wishful thinking.
Mightn't be too long before the Vic version of the Great Alpine Road goes
the same way as that in NSW. In the meantime... expect the un-expected.

So, crack down on people with sports bikes and no idea how to use
    the brakes.

(Thankfully, most folks seem to be able to comprehend the difference
between idiots and Gentleman Motorbicyclists anyway ...)

The Vic version? how many versions of the Great Alpine Road are there?
I don't think Smee's tractor goes that fast... though he has been pretty
quiet... maybe he's busy taking the spuds off it before anyone notices.
