Would it not come under 'incitement'? Not sure incitement to suicide
actually exists as a crime, but I bet there's something that covers this
    sort of thing.

If it isn't the Zanu Labour party will invent it pretty soon.

  6. Wtf is wrong with Derby coppers? All they had to do was tell the
shouters to shut up or they would be arrested and whistle up a couple of
    paddywagons to stand by.

Apart from that, I'm not surprised the poor sod topped himself. Imagine
having to live with an ID photo like that on his student card.

  7. Simple 'Breach of the Peace' at the very least and once it's up in court
and the mag hears about the circumstances, I'd bet there would be a few
    stinging fines.

Perzactly, if they wanted to they could have done.
It could have been worse, he could have been ginger and living in
    derby.

I know you could be prosecuted for assisting a suicide but shouting at
someone to jump would whilst unpleasant, is IMO be quite different
    from actually helping them.

The Suicide Act 1961, makes it an offence to aid, abet, counsel or
procure a suicide or a suicide attempt.

"Counsel" would seem to fit here.

  11. Whilst I wouldn't actually shout at someone to jump, I can understand
    the feelings behind it.

We were held up in a traffic jam on M1 a few years ago, no clue what it
was all about for an hour or so until the radio news piped up that the
Police had closed the motorway because someone was threatening to jump
off a bridge, near J29 Mansfield/Chesterfield. After waiting another
half hour before we could turn round and drive miles back to J30 (we
were only a mile from the bloody bridge but they wouldn't let anyone
use the exit slip-road before the bridge) we all wished that the bugger
would either jump or just **** off and stop wasting hundreds of peoples
    time.

The buggers generally close the motorway to 'search for evidence' afterwards
even though they were watching when it happened, so you still get delayed.

The correct thing to shout is
    "Jump, you fucker, jump.
Jump into this here blanket what we are holding
    And you will be alright."

It is an offence here in France (three years imprisonment and a 45,000?
fine (five years and 75,000? if the victim is a child)), but only if it,
    erm .. 'works'.

I'd have imagined they could have nicked 'em for a good old-fashioned
    Breach.
