Diversity.

    It's just occured to me how diverse my current bike collection is
    considering I've only got five in total:

    One single, one twin, two triples, one four.
    One 2-stroke, the rest 4-stroke.
    Two Italians, two Brits, one half Italian half Japanese.
    One enduro, two big trailies, one naked, one supersports.

    If you give one point for each major difference (country of origin,
    number of cylinders, 2/4 stroke, style, & number of wheels to keep the
    outfit & trike brigade happy), & divide that by the number of bikes,
    you get a sort of diversity score. The higher the number, the more
    diverse your collection.

    So I get 4 for cylinders, 2 for strokes, 2.5 for origin, 4 for style &
    1 for number of wheels, giving me a diversity score of 2.70.

    Well it makes a change from the usual totting up of BHP...

    I'm not sure that works:

    I get 1 for cyclinders, 1 for strokes, 1 for origin, 1 for style and 1
    for no. wheels.

    Divided by 1.

    So that's a diversity score of 5 for my one bike!

    Surely it's zero for each area, since there's no difference?

    If you had a second, totally different in each way, bike you'd get one
    point for each - so a score of 2.5

    Which seems fair, since there's a fair bit of duplication in Krusty's
    collection.

    Hmm. OK if you've only got one bike, your score is 0 as there's
    obviously no diversity. Or something.

    I think you need to change the scoring a bit, so that it's the number
    of differences minus 1. So for a twin, a triple and a four you score
    2, not 3. For a 2-stroke and a 4-stroke you score 1.

    This gives a single bike a score of 0 and with your stable a score of
    (3 + 1 + 1.5 + 3 + 0) / 5 = 1.7

    How's that?

    Hmmm. I'm not sure you've done that right. In any case, I think I beat you
    with my CB500 because it has 4 cylinders, it's 4 stroke, they were built in
    Japan & Italy, so that's 2. Admittedly probably no score for style, but it
    has 2 wheels, so divided by 1, I score 12!

    I think you've misunderstood Krusty's scoring system totally.

    Can't be bothered with the calculations, but v-twin, flat-twin, v-four,
    single, Italian, German, Japanese and Chinese - sportsbike, tourer,
    sports-tourer, trails bike.

    Using the refined scoring method, & ignoring engine configuration other
    than number of cylinders, you get (3-1)+(4-1)+(4-1)/4 = 2.

    I'm not sure I want to play this (revised)game.

    1+0+0+1+0/4= 0.5

    Unless I can convince the judges that the Wings are American ...

    Can't we count cylinders, or better yet, kilogrammes?

    OK.

    Cylinders: only singles and twins - same as it ever was and always will
    be, so 2-1 = 1.
    Strokes: two and four (BTW what will you count a rotary as?) so 2-1 = 1.
    Origin: (Should have kept the Voxan) Italian or Japanese so 2-1 = 1.
    Style: Hmm, One MX/supermoto - YZ250, one tourer - Morini, two sports
    ultra lightweight (GFRs), one ???? - Shiver so 4-1 = 3.

    Total 6 divided by 5 = err 1.2 I think.

    Count total number of cylinders by all means. I've got 35[1]...

    [1] Or 39 if I include the compressor, strimmer & RC car.

    Rotary's gotta count as a third "stroke" option, with the number of
    rotors counting as cylinders.

    Diesel's a fourth "stroke" option.
    What about Champ's Turbo? Another one for a point there?

    Aircooled/watercooled?

    This is getting complicated...

    Too obscure to bother with.
    Also too obscure, but I'll allow it if the scoring's based on bikes in
    your possession rather than ones you own...
    Yeah that's a good one, takes my score up to 1.9 (or 2.2 if I include
    possession of a turbo).

    Longitudinal four-stroke four, transverse four-stroke four, two-stroke
    single, four-stroke triple, four-stroke V-twin, four-stroke single.

    Germany, Japan, Japan, UK, Italy, Japan

    Can't figure out the scoring, so "whatever". Looks a bit more diverse,
    though.
