I still have trouble attaching these racks with instructions, and I have
fitted at least 5 to my bikes over the past 20 years (Gearsac and Ventura)
so I guess I am about as smart as Clem.

Have a look at the pic and see if you can figure out why this "Ventura" rack
might've been a bit different George!
    http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/bargearse/rack.jpg

As you can see I did finally manage to fit it (with a bit of heavy
"persuasion" after I gave up and accepted that the feller who sold it to me
    lied about keeping the grab-handles.
    http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/bargearse/95back.jpg

Although the '98 Sprint Sport and the '95 Sprint he swore it came from have
visually identical rear-ends the Ventura web-page lists different L-brackets
for them so maybe I have to give him the benefit of the doubt .....

AS opposed to just dumbing it down and down and further down like yourself
    George?

I've only fitted Gearsacks (and Gearsack clones) and they seem to be almost
infinitely variable. Sometimes you can crack it and get the PERFECT fit and
    sometimes you've remounted your rear-shocks upside-down and-left-to-right
(like I did on my VX800) and moved the indicators, made custom-brackets and
god know what else and you still have to bend the seat to get it off.

I've never fitted a Ventura but I assumed they'd be a lot simpler (or should
    I say "George-like").

I can't resist adding a post about "shining a light!" Who knows what our
resident "shining wit" will make of that?

Just got back from Queenstown last night.

If you're a noob to the frozen stuff I would /strongly/ suggest a two or
three day all-in ticket from nzski.com for Coronet Park - great place
for beginners and just had a massive update on the base building. The
all-in price gets you lift passes and equipment hire. They will also
arrange clothes hire and bus passes if necessary.

We just snow-boarded, sky-dived and jet boated for a week or so with a
little time set aside each day to sample the local hostelries. Can't
    wait to get back.

We're at Wanaka tonight, at a place called "The Purple Cow" (well, you
would be too if you had to stand around out in the cold all night).

We've brought our own ski gear, and we've so far had a half-day at The
    Remarkables (almost 100% white-out, couldn't se a bloody thing),
another half-day at Coronet peak (very nice, but also went to white-
out about an hour after we arrived), and finally a half-day today at
Treble Cone (perfect conditions). We had a grand time on the groomed
trails, but I've given my left knee a bit of a twisting on one of the
powdery bits, so I expect I'll be resting it tomorrow.

Oh, we went to the Queenstown Canyon Swing yesterday, which I enjoyed
so much that I did it thrice. ;-)

We also went on the Shotover Jet, but I have to admit I was left
feeling a bit "Is that all?" about it - it's probably been to hyped-up
to me by other NZ visitors over the years.

Lots of nice roads seen and noted for a summer motorcyle tour,
    too. ;-)

If you want a real buzz (assuming you haven't done it before) give
N-Zone a call in Queenstown and do one of their 15,000 ft tandem skydives.

Suffice it to say that I got the bug and am now saving up for a Class A
    permit course.
