Not anymore. They have a power/weight ratio limit on learner combo's these
days, according to the DVLA scab sheet.

  2. Same here. The L limit when I started was 250cc. At the time I'd assumed
it was always so, but I've a recollection of somebody saying that the
250 limit was introduced not long before I'd started. The 250 limit went
out, to be replaced by the 125 limit in the early 80s, iirc, brought
about by moaning whinging cunts on programmes like 'Nationwide'.

Brought about by an adverse reaction to the LC250 surely.
If all the teens had stuck to their Honda Wet Dreams the limit
    might have remained at 250cc.

    It was 1983 or 4.

I bought a 250 (I was 17 at the time) and had to sell it for loads less than
I bought it because of the new rules.

    Tim Gordon says...
I passed my test in 1979 because there was already talk of the limit
being dropped to 125cc back then. MCN's sensationalist headline claiming
the 1980 RD250LC to be the worlds first 100mph 250 didn't do any good
and certainly helped push the 125cc legislation through faster.

When 250s became worthless in 1983, a mate and I bought loads of them
cheap and punted them on to a Dublin dealer at a nice profit.

    Cunts.

It's all fucking pseudo safety bollocks, innit.

I shall be thrashing the **** out of my 660 tomorrow. Probbly the only
time I'll get left this year in which to do so[1].

[1] meaning ICBFA to clean the bloody thing and when I do I want it to
be summery again and not need doing again for another 3 months.

It wasn't the early 90s. I passed my test in '88 and was riding round on
a learner legal 125 up until that point.
My examiner was sitting on a bench reading a paper.

    Goes without saying really.
It's to stop terrorists from overrunning the country.
If the weather dog allows it, I'll be doing the same thing on the Zed.
I serviced mine this week and fully intended to give a thorough seeing to
with the cleaning stuff at the same time, but the fucking sun came out, so I
didn't bother. It really needs a cleaning now, but it can wait 'til Sunday.

And although Nationwide finished, the whinging cunts just changed horses,
coz their banging on and on has resulted in you (or anyone for that matter)
not being able to ride a big bike until you're twenty-fucking-four. At least
it WILL be that come 2012 and by that time, bikes will be strangled to death
by Euro VI emissions reg's and have a max output just the same as the Tiger
bleeding Cub had. That's bollocks all btw.

And I thought Russia was supposed to be the police state.

Typo from me Mark (two actually) Should've read 70's or 80's.

I passed my test in '88 and was riding round on
There you go. Mine wore brogues, I remember that much, but little else:)

What you can't wait to clean it or ride it?

    <Checks weather>

Yep. I shall be riding mine again this weekend but I'll leave the
cleaning to something lazy like Fuchs Off.

I can always wait to ride it, but clesaning it is so exciting I can barely
stand the anticipation, let alone the act.
The weather's a bit shite here right now, but there's a little bit of blue
poking through (ohh missis), so it's looking like the cleaning will be
    delayed. I'm gutted.
