.... the inlet manifold on my bike perished and I couldn't get a new one. So
for the sake of this £2.50 bit of rubber I had to get a whole donor bike off
ebay. Will this keep happening, and is there a cure?

Yes. No. And you do realise the rubber on the donor bike will be fucked
    too?

Look, it's old and is long forgotten by its parents (Kawasaki). It already
runs entirely on optimism, so I'm just applying a hope injection, in order
to stave off the day when I get forced into Fazerdom.

Plus I get some good tyres and an unshredded seat. When I've merged the
best bits of both bikes into one, the worthless remains will be sold as a
    tempting classic on eBay.

    Wotcha mean, cynical?

  5. As I bought a whole 400 Four purely to nick the immaculate chrome rack
    off it, I'd say no.

That's taking things a bit too far. I once bought a very scruffy RD400E
purely because I knew for certain it had a pair of brand new and unused,
unobtainable set of cylinder barrels on it. Paid peanuts for it too,
because matey hadn't managed to get it running and he didn't know they
    were new barrels.

No-one in their right mind would pay that. I prefer the later ones
    anyway.

Lozzo was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Not quite as far as buying a model bike to break for spares because
another one was missing a footrest...

  10. Ah, yes.

And the **** who burgled me took both. In fact, the ****(s) took every
single one of my model bikes.

The swine. Anything turn up later?

SWMBO had her bag pinched from our kitchen a few years back (walked in
behind her after she came home from school with the children - shook her
up a bit). The thief was caught and it was found in the boot of his
    (stolen) car.

One would hope that models ought to be rather easy to trace - were the
    police any good?

    Regards,

    Simonm.

  12. The models are easy to trace, in that some of them are unusual, but they
aren't really worth much. They took 30 or 40, and the majority are those
three or four quid Maisto things.

A few Dinky, Matchbox, Britains ones. A few bigger die cast ones. I
valued the whole lot for the insurance company at 200 quid.

The irritating thing is that it took 20 years to put the collection
    together.
