Are there no lights in these garages? Can't you just put a power plug
    into a light socket?
    Google "light socket adapter"

Sussex. I'm a northern monkey among soft southern jessies.

If there is then the lights will be 5A and could be 1mm cable. Not
seen such an adaptor for years since my gran moved from Battersea.

  5. Exactly. I looked into having power put in to one of my garages a few
years ago, it's an industrial installation as it's not a house, at
least a grand to get the power cable laid, plus the excavation costs,
plus all the other costs, sadly it wasn't worth it. That's for a
privately owned garage, you'd never get a council doing that.

Our two garages are 30m from the house. We've wired up proper lighting
and a couple of 13A double sockets and just run a 4 way extenson lead
out from the Kitchen to supply power for tools and the lights when
    we're working.

Given the current state of the art (LED lighting) and the cheap and easy
availability of battery-powered tools, in conjunction with affordable
12V powered AC inverters, and portable power packs and/or generators, not
having wired-in AC power in a garage isn't really as big a problem as it
    used to be.

  8. Mine's about 10m from my house. I run an extension lead across my
driveway and er... leave it there.

About once a year the mcb goes and I need to either replace or shorten
    the lead.

I really ought to dig a trench and run an armoured cable. Been saying
this for close to ten years. Suppose if I did it would make sense to
    run Cat5 as well.

Mine's attached to the house and has lights, sockets and the outlet
from the tumble dryer, so I can be toasty warm if I ever feel the need
to do stuff in the garage in the middle of winter.

I have to wait until the tumble dryer's in use though, and the chances
of that coinciding with me wanting to be in the garage are slim.

Mines detached, but only about 3m from the house. Two double sockets,
presumably fed by an armoured cable underground when the garage was
built. I keep meaning to see if I can see my wifi router from inside it.
I doubt it given the 3 or 4 very solid brick walls in the way.
