They should be in the same place as electric scooter riders with no reg
    plates or helmets.
    Which is:
In the gutter dying because I ran them over

    Issue? Me? Nooooooooooo

  4. Seems to me that the folks who sold him one in the first place missed a
huge trick. If an unemployed factory worker can afford to shell out 5
grand on that piece of shite then he can easily be conned out of the cash
to cover the extra cost of the safety gear.

plastic plod like PCSOs (police community support officers)

I interviewed one for my dissertation and he kept using the phrase
"collecting intelligence" like he was from Bletchley Park.

Is it just another name or is it another flavour of plastic plod?
Google only chucks back segway dude and one who topped himself for
a search on "civilian police inquiry officer"

I really don't seem to be able to get my head round plod and the
    many flavours thereof.

    @simurg.ath.cx:

    see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_police#Police_civilians

the relevant law devolves power to individual chief constables to create
civilian staff to perform specific functions and cherry pick from a list
as to the powers each has. They can give them any name they like too.

The variability of powers thing makes it difficult to know whether it is
permissable to say "**** off" and keep walking or go into car doffing
appeasement. Tories have been making noises about scrapping PCSOs etc.
We'll have a bunch of geriatric volunteers in dayglo bibs and fake radar
    guns on every street...

  10. My kind of job. Just imagine the fun, pointing it all those 4 byes and
watching all those uninsured wives driving hubbies "company car" and
wetting their prada knickers in panic. Where do I sign up?

  11. Nah, it's just a fuckwitted mag's court.
The Segway doesn't even fall under electric bicycle regs, which would be
the closest thing to it. IF it did, it's throttle-only controlled, which
would actually be illegal under UK and EU regs now extant, and theres no
way I can see to make it a pedelec.

Why the **** shouldn't he? For all you know he's only been unemployed
a couple of months, was earning £60k per year and came away with
    another £50k in redundancy money.

£30k then, the amount really isn't important, and he's been good as
    saving his money.
