Does this mean that he needs a helmet, licence, registration and insurance?

didn't say I was going to buy one, don't see the point in taking a US
contract out or spending $400 on one when I can prolly get one for
    free as an upgrade.

I had a weekend on my own to kill and two trips to the cinema was
    enough for me.

    *waves* from the back.

I do have a basic mobile phone that gets switched on occasionally.

Mobiles for me are mostly for personal calls form work, emergencies or
those rare occasions whe one has to rendez-vous with someone.

At home: I have a direct land line and two PCs
At work: I have a direct land line and several PCs
    Commuting: can't use a phone.

Battery life is measurable in weeks.

And even if you did, it's not like you'd turn the thing on anyway, is
it? Perhaps you ought to get one, then you could trumpet your
massively-extended battery life over the three-hour boys hereabouts.

  8. My phone is nearly always switched on. Not sure why you feel the
    indignant "tone" is necessary.
Unlikely given it would run out just like my current phone runs out of
charge. The only thing that may persuade me to switch to a smart phone
is when TfL introduce real time bus route information accessible via the
web / smart phone - this is due later this year. I want to see how
reliable the information is before deciding if I wish to take on the
financial commitment of a more expensive phone.

oh I bought stuff. new external hard drive, laptop charger, clothes
for grand daughter, book, underwear. but not a new phone.

I think I spent the longest in Barnes and Noble than any other store.
I may be female but I hate shopping.

Coo that could be awkward. What's the job market like there for English
    speakers?

ps. skulking around ski slopes is NOT a replacement job ;o)

Well I was absolutely sure that I didn't, and now...

I'm not, so that's all right. Some structural changes that may be
better, to be announced in full tomorrow, but still here (and being
paid, which TBH is the main thing).

Especially since we forked over a big wodge of cash for an Audi TT on
    Friday.

No problem on the language front, but my skill-set isn't much
transferrable, except for more mundane work which I'd be considered
over-qualified for. But I've had my interview now, and as expected
will continue to be employed :)
Hah. Not unless I could continue to be paid a proper salary,
certainly. Jude's still enjoying being a ski instructor, mind, but
then she's also working back here as a consultant, so is getting the
proper money[1] as well, while still being "part-time" enough to do
    the skiing stuff too.

[1] More than me, so no change there.

Well that's some good news at least. Hopefully Champ can manage same. They
need to (at least) give him credit for being quick in and out of the Kharzi
I expect ski "instructing", like everything else in the holiday industry,
    pays absolutely SFA.

The Government has issued a travel warning due to the cold weather.
They suggest that anyone travelling in the current icy conditions should
make sure they have the following:
              Shovel
              Blankets Or Sleeping Bag
Extra Clothing Including Hat And Gloves
              24 Hours Worth Of Food
              De-Icer
              Rock Salt
              Flashlight With Spare Batteries
              Road Flares Or Reflective Triangles
              Full Spare Gas Can
              First Aid Kit
              Booster Cables
I looked like an idiot getting on the bus this morning...

Not on his recent trip over here, he wasn't. Immodium stocks ran dry.
Aye. A low-ish level, but qualified, instructor will get something
like 30 francs an hour (rising to perhaps 40 after a season or two).
Which, despite current exchange rates, I equate to around 15 quid. And
it'd generally be a max of five hours per day, possibly six if you
skip a lunch break, but more often a lot less than that. So yeah, as
    you say, SFA.

But that's true for just about any job in a ski resort. An instructor
will get more than a lift operator, for instance. Expert piste patrol
might get more, certainly would be able to do more hours. Mountain
guides will get more, but are even less able to guarantee work all
season than instructors, although TBF many of them can continue to
    work through the summer too.

But it ain't generally the money that attracts people to the industry.
I mean, the stuff I do for the Ski Club doesn't pay me at all, FFS!
