    Well I do happen to know that the small ski school that Jude works for
    only just manages to turn a profit, even with such an apparent margine
    between customer price and instructor cost. Not looked into their
    finances in any detail, mind, but Armin, who runs it, is certainly not
    making a killing from it.

  6. This has been my observation for decades. They do it because it's "fun",
    not because they're businesspeople, which is why so many are utterly
    incompetent and go bust in spectacular fashion, regularly and
    frequently.

    The parallels with the motorcycle world, as I've also observed for
    decades, are inescapable.
