It's "Happy Birthday, Dear Suzuki" time again, and NRMA is showing that
    it isn't easy being green.

    NRMA - last year's green slip = $247.50
    NRMA - This year's quoted = $358.45
Did the MAA thing and came up with GIO = $232.74

When I asked the GIO bloke for a comprehensive quote he said they don't
do bikes. They do the cheapest CTP for bikes but won't even take the
    risk on comp.

The MAA site has AAMI green slip at $491 and Allianz at $492.

Somebody out there in insurance land is going to be able to tell me why
the variation from $232 to $490 makes sense. I don't want to be there
    when it happens.

What is it with these riders who feel the requirement to post their CTP
quotes and ask how insurance companies calculate premiums. I would just
pay the cheapest quote and let the binliner discuss the merits of the
rest. I won't charge for my money saving tips. :)

Easy. Every year people renew their CTP without looking. You get the
stalwart NRMA customer that wouldn't think about shopping around. They'll pay
whatever, thinking they have better protection with NRMA

    Or

You find a cheap CTP and use that one year, next year premium goes up. How
many new customers you think will stay and just think that all CTP premiums
have increased without checking around. Possibly quite a few, so the insurer
picks up last's years price cut.

Are you suggesting that Nev knows a place that sells daylight cheaper than
everyone else? I wanna know who it is.....

That's why I always shop around before renewing, just to make sure it
is still the best deal! I had a similar range of quotes for the car
CTP, although Allianz was only just over $300 to GIO's $260 - can't
remember who the $500 one was. Comprehensive was a similar deal in
terms of differences, leading to a swap from AAMI to Allianz. I might
have to do another shop around though, as we just got a "new" car
yesterday after cooking the old one, and despite being worth only
$2400 (and more than $3000 less than the old one!), the premium still
only dropped by $2 - the cheapest insurer for one car/bike obviously
isn't the cheapest for others. It's a pain in the backside, but worth
the effort - I'd rather the money be in my pocket than theirs, and
mostly the savings are enough that even the loss of so-called "loyalty
benefits" (where offered) is worth it.
