And you should have said "harder one" :-)
heh.
I know I'm biased and I know I've always said I'd have had the gixxer if I could have had the same deal as the one on the 10R but I'm 99% certain I wouldn't buy the latest generation ZX10R. They'll give it back it's balls in a couple of years time.
I'll be fitting one when the new airbox goes on. Fitting a K&N air filter gave my bike an instant 4 bhp increase which at £25 for the filter has to be the cheapest power increase avail bale.
K+N on my Christmas list. I take it the new airbox is a performance item, who makes it? Please. Manufacturers claim and extra 7bhp with some new cans and the removal of the cat. Anyone done this?
Champ says... By lairy I take it you mean they have too much power for the chassis' to comfortably handle? If that's the case then surely having a bike that has power that is more useable in a more competent chassis is a good thing.
I haven't a clue who made it originally. I purchased it remarkably cheaply from a builder of fine racing motorcycles who just happened to have it lying around in his workshop/ Apparently they can cost up to a grand and give substantial increases in power. I was more concerned with the weight of the original system on mine which is why I was shocked when Kawasaki put an even heavier one on the new model.
I don't think any of the bikes left unsnipped had too much power for the chassis to handle in the hands of an experienced rider.
I didn't describe it as lairy but I'm sure a quick google will find a few description from the cihagm morning at the Black Horse. That might be what Champ meant.

Champ says... Now you see, my Gixer Thou made me feel like I was bout to die at any second. It didn't make sense below 120mph, and once you got there it egged you on to go even faster. My brain couldn't cope with the way it demanded 110% attention all the time, but my brain also kept telling me to go faster because it was so much fun. I have this with the Daytona but in reverse. Things don't happen in quite the same vicious manner as they did on the Gixer, it's still quickish, but not in the same league. It's more 'sensible', for want of a better word, which is exactly what I was looking for when I decided to buy it. I don't get off shaking like I did the Gixer, I get off with a grin on my chops. You and I both want different things from our bikes, so I can see why you bought the ZX10R. I wanted to rein it in a bit, and you want more power, more speed. This is why I love the Bandit, it really does transport you back to the days of foul handling, slow pieces of shit. I can cane the living crap out of it everywhere and relive my misspent youth on it at less than 120mph and for very little money.

Wicked Uncle Nigel says... That's not a garage, it's a rest home for otherwise unloved motorcycles. No, you bought an Enfield. ****
That was almost poetry, I loved it. I've changed my mind, it is poetry.. I let you know how I get on with the 10R, I'm collecting it in a hour.
In general, yes, but I don't think it was the case with the gixxer. Your K1 was every bit as civilised to ride as my K3, and slightly down on power. Certainly no more 'lary'. And the Z1a was better than the b, and even more so than the Z900, etc. etc. I wasn't always convinced, mind. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Well, similar, but I remember looking at yours and mine side by side last year and noting that in fact there were very few parts in common, starting with the frame and engine casings and working upwards, as it were. Sure. It was also much less comfortable for normal-height people. But a production run of two distinct models over four years is hardly what you said, particularly given that, if anything, the second model(K3/K4) was _more_ "lary", in that it went slightly quicker but otherwise felt very similar. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. The early K1's like the one I had did have some problems, I had three recalls. The clutch basket also destroyed itself.
