This is the response of one of the other councillors

    "I am an ex-biker myself. I had a Yamaha XV1100, but I sold it about 5-6
    years ago.

The idea about limiting parking has been on the cards for several years. I
can remember it being discussed in Aberystwyth Town Council meetings at
least five years ago. I do not know why it has suddenly made the BBC news.

I have never found the parking of motor bikes on the prom to be any great
problem. Bikers use the widest bit of the prom and there is always room for
    people to walk the prom.

Regarding the insinuation you make against a local Ceredigion Councillor, I
think you are mistaken. (He does not own the hotel, by the way, he is the
    manager.)

The problem with the diner on the prom goes back to the early 1990's. The
conservative government was pushing public-private partnerships as the way
to improve public services; and there was a great deal of behind-the-scenes
pressure on local councils to go into these deals. The old Ceredigion
District Council had not done any of these deals, so they were forced into
going into partnership with a private company where the company put up the
capital to built the diner and they got exclusive rights to sell food on the
promenade. The problem is that the old Ceredigion Council were not well
versed in contract negotiations and gave away far too much. The diner has an
exclusive right to sell food and drink anywhere on the prom between
Constitution Hill and the War Memorial - and there is no end-date to this
exclusive right. We as townspeople have lost our rights on the prom. Before
this deal was signed, for example, there were regular fares on the prom at
which some stall-holders would sell food and drink. These no longer take
    place.

There is no link between motor cycle parking on the prom and the issue of
the contract with the diner. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either
deliberately trying to twist things, or has not understood the background to
    these issues.

    Yours,
    Chris Simpson
    Aberystwyth North Ward Councillor"

    additional info

"I think this needs clarification I do not have any responsibility for
enforcing existing legislation in regards to the promenade I attended a prom
forum meeting with another three county councillors ,two council officers
and a town councillor and were informed by the officers that a complaint had
been received by a member of the public and supported by a letter from our
MP.This then becomes a problem for the council as this has been logged and
if any occurrence occurs which could lead to legal action taken against the
council we would be liable as we are allowing an illegal activity to take
place and therefore we cannot carry on turning a blind eye ,after much
debate it was unanimously agreed we cannot allow something to take place
which could lead to a legal action taken out against the council .What I
find typical of some councillors that they havent the courage to be honest
and come forward and admit that they also agreed that we should look for
alternative arrangements and work with the motorcyclists in trying to look
    for other possible sites. aled"

A I understand it it's always been illegal but they've turned a blind eye to
bikes parking there and the ruckus is because the council are now enforcing
    the existing legislation

    If I read it correctly...

    * the council have known about existing legislation for a long time but
    have turned a blind eye.
    * A member of the public (involved or not) complained to their MP
    * The MP passed it back to the council in a manner which officially
    logged the complaint
    * The council have now decided they have to act on the existing
legislation because the complaint has made it somewhere official
    * Some sheep-shaggers, scousers and tourists stupid enough to visit
north Wales are suffering as a result

It's not exactly a hundred thousand dead in Iraq, is it?

They seem to have retained the NetScaler brand while slapping Xen-
    related names on everything else.

There's an offence that is 'Obstructing the Queen's Highway' [1] which
includes the pavements, so they can move or impound your bike if it's
    obstructing wheelchairs/prams etc.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

The NetScalers seem alright really. Certainly more powerful than the
    Alteons we're pensioning off.

it's the remote access/server virtualising stuff we use. I've been
tangentially involved in using it right back to Winframe, and it's
never "just worked" - always seems to require constant fiddling with.
