    Esp. for u Nev [5th Nov.05']:

    doohan
    11 seasons - 5 Championships = 45.45%

    Fastest laps 46 = 33.57%
Worst final Championship spot = 9th

Always on the haonda works bike, no Ducati, Kawasaki, army of factory
haonda bikes or Bridgestone to compete against.

    The Doctor
    6 seasons - 5 Championships = 83.33%
    103 starts 55 wins = 53.39%
    Fastest laps 47 = 45.63%
Worst final Championship spot = 2nd

No, just other factory japanese bikes, and riding vicious 2-strokes
Rossi couldn't handle, and against the likes of lawson, gardner, rainey
and Schwantz. but hey, Rossi was able to pip Gibernau (snerk)
When Gibernau is your strongest opponent, his figures should be much
    higher than that
The "dog" bike even Biaggi won races one
neither. Not even in the top 5 IMHO

Rossi won the Chapionship twice on the 500's and then 3 times on the
vastly more powerful 1000cc 4 strokes. You know them, near 350km/h and
250HP smashed every lap time of the 500's.Brutal beats they will get
    tamed in 07'

and against the likes of lawson, gardner, rainey
When Creville/Okada is your strongest opponent, his figures should be
    much
    higher than that

Yeap when Rossi's tyre exploded and engine failures, easy to win by
    default
I agree, AT LEAST 5 spots above the next best in 2nd spot. Now that he
has resigned i would say he is going after Ago's'8

Finishing 2nd behind Kenny Roberts Jnr is nothing to gloat about :)

Rossi better get a move on breaking records before Pedrosa rewrites them
    all.

    Kocinski and Mamola...

If Rossi had had the balls to jump straight into 500s like St. Michael of
Doohan did, he would've had the opportunity to race against some real
    champions.

He hid in the lower classes 'til they'd all gone and KR Jr. was the World
    Champ by default.

Even with a hopeless opposition Sir Rossi (Bravely Bold Sir Rossi) still
can't dominate a season like St. Michael of Doohan did in 1997...

I wouldn't say he "hid" but he was very very fortunate to lob straight into
the vacuum left after Mick had destroyed everyone.
Alex Criville and KRJR on the Suzook got championships fer-crissakes!
He got a single-rider team with the number-one crewchief and crew (and all
of the data and experianced gathered while winning 6 of the previous 7
championships) and the very best of everything! (Remember Mick started as
third-stringer behind Gardner and Lawson and on B-production tyres)
In the next few years people like Barros, Capirossi and Gibernau were his
chief rivals; people who Mick wouldn't wipe his boots on!

Sure he's the best out there; but it's a pretty shallow pool compared to
    the Rainey/Doohan/Schwantz/Lawson/Gardner era!

Rossi , Doohan .absolutely no comparison.Rossi did more for GP racing
than Doohan before he moved up to the 500s.......................

Oh yes definitely Rossi has done a great deal to make MotoGP popular with
non core-fans and to bring in sponsors and media.
Mick, and most of the champions before him, cared very little for all that
publicity and promotional stuff. (Lawson and Rainey were virtually unknown
    in their home country!)
Barry Sheene was more in the Rossi mould though.

You could also always point out that Rossi won one 500cc title, not two.

No way I'm qualified to say but in my era it'd be Mick Doohan, Eddie Lawson
    and errmm.......
I guess I have to add Rossi just for sheer results (and his jaw-droppingly
incredible luck) but I loved to watch Kevin Schwantz for his ability to
just defy physics and Wayne Gardner for his killer-determination to win.

Actually, his strongest opponent was Max Biaggi. Then Gibbers. Then Barros.
You know of course that Criville won more GPs than Biaggi?...

Yeah those <180HP strokes where so fearsome, Max beat doohan on a
private bike first race first time out. With a bit more assistance Max
would have beaten him by years end too

Yeap thats why Rossi got off the gun bike and did it all again on a
bike that was unwinable for decades.doohan never had the guts to do
    that [would have failed anyway]
Rossi thanked Italian Aprilia for the start and training to his racing
career, Italian bikes lead the MotoGP, WSB and BSB Championship.125cc
and 250cc C/Ship will be in Aprilias pocket by years end too.
LOL in your feeble mind, least he had the balls to get off the honda

Finishing 17th and 9th is nothing for doohan to gloat about....Remind
me what position doohan finished in first year?....
Ped is way overated was not a factor in the last 2 GP's.He is fast when
the bike is 100% perfect, any fool can do that, [12kg less must help
too] its riding on the edge with a not perfect bike and with worn tyres
and the wet, he is very weak in those conditions go watch the French
and Italian GP's again...Easy to beat Rossi when his bike fails

Given the same bike and equipment/help even Stoner would destroy him, i
got a big rap on Casey, hope he gets Setes seat in 07'

Rossi has broken near every record, the only ones left are 8
W/Championships and 68 wins which belong to fellow Italian legent AGO
    [Spelt GOD].

Frankly at 25 million $ a year he is mad to continue on...he must
    really really like winning?

well theres three that noone mentioned and i cant argue,im not old
enough to have seen any of them race.my mother still has signed Derek
Minter photographs from local club meets when she was a young girl.not
sure if he ever proved himself internationally but hes not as well
known as the other two.i think a broken back ended his career didnt it?
    my top three are 1.Rossi

    2.Schwantz
and from what ive seen so far id put Pedrosa in third.i think in
another five years he will be challenging Rossi for the title of best
    ever...................................
