I hope John Surtees gets a mention in this, and his unique claim to fame.

max beat him in the first two races on debut in the 500cc class!

who won on a yamaha? noone since wayne rainey in '92, nine years
    earlier.

he was too busy publicly criticising his teammates for stealing his
tech data for fear that on an equivalant bike, theyd beat him.

two years in each class, and left each of them when he won the
chapionship, is that hiding? well maybe doohan crashed because it was
easier than explaining his loss to Rossi.
who developed the yamaha for him? the yamahas had chronic chassi
problems before Rossi started riding it,at least two of them
understeered out of nearly every race.

weak competition? lawson won his first title in'84, rainey in '90 and
schwantz (finally) in '93.these blokes werent competition for
doohan, they were nearing retirement.saying doohan is better than them
is the same as saying barry sheen kicked agostini's ass.
who was doohans biggest competition from '94 to '98.well
darryl beattie gave him one hell of a run for his money and carlos
checa would have taken a title from him if not for an unfortunate crash
that ruptured his spleen.so how do you rate these two riders?
maybe you should watch the races instead of drawing your conclusions
    from the results............................

WOW now that is a new outlook on it, would have been nice to see them 2
fight it out, perhaps Mr.Burgess could tell us who was better of the 2,
one thing for sure is that Rossi has achevied much more at only 27 -v-
    doohans older age

Rossi could have signed for Ducati but alas they didnt have the money
to compete with the war chest of Yamaha.

He may still in 08'?But Ducati want to win without him otherwise its
him and not the bike that wins.
Been my argument all along Creville and Okada, 2 spastics
    "chequebook/sponsership riders"

    well
Well said really, perfect closing argument.Blown him out of the water U
    a lawyer or something?

Texx just does not want to admit that Rossi is the greatest rider of
the modern era, dont know why he has a problem with that.

Records on 2 differnt bikes and his brutal but super fast riding style
    is poetry in motion...

I want to know how much Rossi asked for and got for racing with Yamaha
in 07' for just one season, they know if he goes they are screwed

I am sure in time another will come along and beat all his
achievements, but perhaps not in my lifetime

    Enjoy the show!

    No, he didnt
Crafar, Biaggi, Abe, McCoy. So much for an "unwinnable" bike
They had equivalent bikes. It didnt help them much
    Heh, sure.
He supposedly had an "unwinnable" bike, except other people had won on
    it.
Where did I say Doohan was better than them? I rate Lawson and Rainey
ahead of Doohan (and light-years ahead of Rossi)
Sure he would have, apart from being 121 points behind and winning only
one race (in which Doohan was present), and being behind on points and
race wins when he crashed. Santa Claus would have won the championship
    ahead of checa

Maybe you should get your facts straight

not only did Biaggi win his debut 500cc race at suzuka in '98, he also
qualified on poll and scored the fastest lap.he then followed up with a
win at the czech republic.i just checked a minute ago.if there were any
machines around that played those things you mentioned, you could do the
    same................................

Mick crashed in the first one and Max won. Mick won the second one and Max
    came third.
I don't think Max ever finished ahead of Mick in a race that Mick finished.
(i.e. "he never beat Mick on the track")

Capirossi, Cadalora, Koscinski and Beattie had all won on Yammies between
    '92 and '98. (from memory)

Yeah but the Czech race was about the tenth of the season; not the second.
Mick probably had 6 or 7 wins before Max got that lucky second one when
Mick dumped it on lap 1.

doohan didnt crash in the first round, his bike siezed while he was
running around in 12th position and he parked it. Biaggi lead the
championship with three rounds to go,it was no runaway victory to
    doohan............................

The Czech GP was the 10th race in 1998...

If that's a follow up, it's a good thing for Biaggi that he didn't take up
    boxing...

Max was 12 points behind but when Mick crashed he got 25 and moved 13
points ahead. (Criville got 20 points and moved 2 points ahead of Mick
    too.)
With 25 points for a win you have to beat the other guy 5 times to make up
for a crash but Mick was back in the lead two races later and took the
championship with a race to spare.
Sure; if the Queen had a dick she'd be king but '88 was a pretty
    comfortable and commanding championship.

You said he won the first two races. He didn't. He won at Suzuka and
Brno, and Brno wasn't the second.

He also offed Doohan at Jarama.

So, despite losing 75 potential points, Doohan still thwupped Biaggi by
more than a two race margin. Every time BIaggi had the chance to apply
    pressure, he choked.

So what's the point, each rider is/was the best in their day as was Agostini
when he rode in the early 70's. To say that one is better than the other
proves nothing as they did no race against each other or on bikes of the
    same era.

To my way of thinking they are bloody great riders.
