Just had a knock at my door.

"Hello, I'm with a market research company, I'm in the area I'd like
to take 5 minutes of your time to ask you some questions, please", says she.

"Certainly", I say, "How much are you paying?".

She looked at me for a moment, then said "Sorry?".

So I told her "Look, your company makes a profit by collecting and collating
data, that data has an intrinsic value. It would be remiss of me to simply
give it away for free. How much are you paying for my information?"

"I'm sorry, I can't pay you", she said with a look of resignation/annoyance
    crossing her face.

"Goodnight then", I said and closed the door on her.

Petty, I know. But hey, she shouldn't come round door stepping on a
    Saturday evening.

  4. We get them all the time. Don't even answer the door after 4pm unless
    we're expecting people.

I spent about 15 mins on the phone doing the same thing a few weeks
ago, I was insistent and she even asked her boss if they would pay me!
I Didn't get any thing 'though, mind you nor did she.
I did have a bloke calling to flog house security systems a while back
and I told him that I was out on parole for a burgulary charge and
would be very interested in finding about house security systems, he
didn't give up, he still said that he would make an appointment.

Just say you work in Market Research. They'll be obliged to leave you
    alone then.

I think making an appointment is to avoid the normal cooling off
period you would have if they cold call.
Usually in the form of "Our representative will be in the area, would
    you like one to call?"
